Life & Work with Brushae Stinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brushae Stinson.

Brushae, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am the “Loud- Mouf Healer.” I am unapologetic and opinionated. That wasn’t always my title, though. See the thing is the evolution of me began in the latter part of 2018. I was in a place where I craved to know who I was and what was I purposed to do. Along the way of discovering my purpose, I later found out that I had been operating in my gift all this time. Although it was something that I did with no effort I didn’t think that was what I was purposed to do. I have always been the one that people have come to for advice or a listening ear. I mean, everyone reached out to me for my thoughts on their problems or simply advice, from old friends to estranged family. What I gave them was my compassion and my opinion because that is what I would want someone to do for me.

As time went on, people started telling me I should share my thoughts with a larger audience. At first, I was hesitant, then I thought- I do have a lot of opinions and people seem to like them, so why not go for it! The Unpopular Realist, aka The Loud-Mouf Healer, came to be shortly after my soul searching, I started my podcast (The Unpopular Realist) in October of 2019. I started a podcast with just a few episodes, but like it often does, life got in the way. I stopped making episodes and I didn’t think anyone was going to notice. But not only did they notice, THEY CARED. They wanted me to return to sharing my opinions with them. So I relaunched the podcast in December 2020. You may be wondering who or what is the Unpopular Realist, allow me a brief moment to introduce to you The Unpopular Realist. I am Brushae, I am what society deems as “unpopular,” that doesn’t mean that I don’t have something important to say!

So I started my podcast where I am blunt, unfiltered, real, and transparent about everyday situations. I also discuss holistic healing, provide a space for affirmations, meditation, and a friend-to-friend reality check. So here I am, from a small town, unpopular and full of compassion and opinions that I hope will bring comfort, fun, and some better decision-making to anyone who hears me. To be honest, I am still figuring all of this out myself, but I was compelled to be there for those who may not see an out in their situation. I chose to be the vessel to be used to minimize the glitz and the glam of life; yes, that’s all fine and dandy. There are still people who need someone who is able to give them hope about real folk problems. When I think about success, I don’t really think about myself. I kind of feel like all of the engagement and support I’m receiving isn’t well earned. And I know the reason I’m feeling this way is because… I’m just being me. However, the people spoke and I was recognized in Columbus, Georgia at the 3rd Annual Girl Boss Gala Awards 2021 for the Best Podcast. Surely, that’s all of the confirmation I need to know that I am doing what I was created to do. It all started with a leap of faith, and still, to this day, I am faithing it until I make it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it has been pretty smooth, my only struggles are me getting in my own way. See, transparently speaking, even TODAY I always undermine all of my work because I have this “who am I” attitude, however, I know what I’ve done, but I honestly don’t know how to digest it all. Once I get over this “lil ole me” phase. I will be unstoppable.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a podcaster, I specialize in mental health wellness, I am most proud of my most recent accomplishment and recognition for having “The Best Podcast”. What sets me apart in this overly saturated market is, ME being who I am, there may be millions of podcasters, but none of them are me.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe that life is about taking risks. I have taken some risks along this journey, one of which include time. I am a mother and I work full-time in addition to podcasting. When I relaunched I wanted to be sure that I was able to devote just as much time to the podcast as I did working for corporate and being a mother. So with that it cost me time to sleep, date, and various other spare activities that I could have participated in. However, knowing that what I do is bigger than me makes it all worth it.
