Life & Work with Kim Ford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Ford.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My career in media started when my personal life went haywire after my 7-year marriage ended. I vowed that when I made it on the other side of disappointment, I’d inspire others to do the same. In 2007 I channeled my energy into launching a digital brand that would promote positive media, healthy relationships, and purpose. This was the birth of my online magazine JubileeMag, now iamKimFord.com. Creating it was like therapy. I was mentally and emotionally free to hear God.

At the time, I didn’t have a background in media and I didn’t have anyone to hook me up with industry connections. My undergraduate degree is in psychology, not journalism. Clearly, this was a different world for me. I made it because of faith, hard work and the right mindset. I was newly single with two children, but I made a decision NOT to have a plan B. I figured out how to build my own website and never looked back. The first major event I covered was the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2007. They had no idea I was new to the media world. But guess what… they approved me to hit the red carpet! Since launching the site, I’ve interviewed celebs like Tyler Perry, Oprah, Kevin Hart, Michael B. Jordan, and countless others. I expanded my brand to include personal development, which led me to write my first book, It’s Never Too Late: The Ultimate Guide to Make An Epic Comeback After A Setback. Whether I’m on the red carpet or pouring into the lives of women, I have chosen to be the light someone needs to keep going, no matter where they come from or what they’ve been through.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I had to figure things out as I went. I was a one-woman show. Most of the time, I had to shoot, host, edit, post on my site and post social media. There are a LOT of moving parts. I fired several interns because they were more focused on being on the scene than doing the work. I was also working full time outside of running my outlet.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With over a decade of experience in the industry, I’m a media personality, author and I create content for my digital brand iamKimFord.com covering entertainment, lifestyle and personal development. I’ve interviewed some of the industry’s biggest stars, such as Tyler Perry, Oprah, Michael B. Jordan and many others. I’ve appeared as an on-air entertainment contributor on CNN Headline News and I’m a freelance writer for The Hollywood Reporter. In February 2020, I spoke on the TEDx stage at Emory University with my signature talk, It’s Never Too Late.

In December 2020, I released my first book titled, “It’s Never Too Late: The Ultimate Guide To Make An Epic Comeback After A Setback.” My message resonates with multicultural women, millennials, and anyone who wants to dream big. I’m also a proud HBCU graduate of Grambling State University. What sets me apart is keeping my focus on good news. There’s enough gossip outlets out there. I focus on culture, the arts, lifestyle and faith. I’m most proud of writing my book, “It’s Never Too Late.” It will transform minds, empower women, create healthy families, and will serve as a mentor for many. It’s sub-titled The Ultimate Guide To Make An Epic Comeback After A Setback because the book is not just inspirational. It’s transformational. It’s available on Amazon.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I studied abroad in Mexico. The culture and food were amazing. Can’t wait to go back!
