Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Williams.
Hi Terri, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to the Fluff N Fold Laundry, I was looking for a business to invest and provide some financial freedom. I also wanted a business venture that I could pass along to my son, Sultan. I researched and explored several business ventures but became fascinated with the laundry concept. I was looking for passive income but soon realized that I was going to have to grow the business into my idea of a full-service laundry for our community. We wanted to offer the Decatur area a convenience of a full slate of laundry services.
We wanted to make Fluff N Fold Laundry, a clean inviting, family-friendly atmosphere. Fluff N Fold Laundry’s vision is be a full-service laundromat specializing in Drop Off and Pick Up and Delivery wash, dry, and fold services. We look to form partnerships in the community with salons, spas, Airbnb, Home Health Facilities and other business that require laundry service.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has been a learning adventure, bumpy at times, but fun, especially throwing in the many aspects of COVID and new business ownership. Coming into the business wanting a passive income and finding out that it would require long days and nights to actually get the business where we envisioned and begin to thrive. Covid-19 presented challenges to families with working from home, virtual learning, and just not having enough time in the day. Fluff N Fold provides the convenience to customers to be able to drop off or schedule pick up and delivery of their laundry. We like to think we are helping people reclaim some of their time back to spend with family. Our motto: “We fluff and fold so you don’t have to!”
My vision is a full-service laundry, providing Drop off wash, dry, and fold services and Pick Up and Delivery to businesses and families. The coin laundry side of the business always has obstacles, such as keeping the washers and dryers in good running order and maintaining and keeping your patrons happy. The other side of the business, the vision was to strengthen our presence in the community and provide a convenience of drop-off and pick up and delivery services. Contactless Pick Up and Delivery became a necessity in the midst of the COVID pandemic.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. I am an NAIA Track All-American and an inductee into the University if Arkansas at Pine Bluff Sports Hall of Fame. I have one son, Sultan Williams.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I stepped out on faith. I had a 30-year background of customer service and an abundance of help and support from my friends and family. I went into the laundry business, knowing that there was a small percentage of black females in the laundry industry. We approached start-up of Fluff N Fold Laundry with an open mind trying to learn from any and every avenue possible. I listened to podcasts, webinars, and I reached to complete strangers in the laundry industry for answers. We placed a huge amount of focus on customer service and customer satisfaction.
My team and I decided we were going to take the first year and just learn the business of laundry. No major changes, just enhancements to the existing business. Then COVID happened and we were forced to make some enhancements to the way business was normally done. We started to really push Drop Off – wash, dry, and fold services. We most recently have added Contactless Pick Up and Delivery. We never thought about failing, it was never an option.
