Meet Elisabeth Sherwin of Hello Headshots in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisabeth Sherwin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a BFA degree in Interior Design, I went to work for a boutique architectural firm in Atlanta. My position there required me to wear several different hats, and I was able to perfect my skills in graphic design, interior architecture, and yes, photography. So years later, when a long-time family friend and mentor asked if I wanted to help start a photography company, I jumped at the chance!

I started working at the Image Bureau in 2013, and it quickly became a crash course on entrepreneurship. I loved the opportunity to learn about the business first hand, and after several years of steadily growing the company, I was able to buy out the Image Bureau.

In 2017, Hello Headshots was born, and I am so grateful to be able to continue to do what I love as the proud owner of my business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The main struggle was learning the business itself. I was well versed in art and design, but not so much in the running of a company, so when I decided to join the Image Bureau, I faced quite the learning curve. Thankfully, I had a great mentor to provide guidance and support, and after much trial and error, I was able to find a “formula” that would ensure long-term success.

Hello Headshots – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Hello Headshots is the most convenient and affordable way to get a high quality, professional photo. My unique system ensures that each client receives a headshot they love, and they have fun in the process!

First, I work with each individual in a one-on-one photoshoot while directing them on poses to make sure I get the best shot. Next, we sit down together to review all of the pictures and pick out their favorite photo.

Then, the best part: I do all the retouching, on-site, so each client gets to see their headshot polished to perfection. This allows for just the right amount of enhancements, and it also ensures that the client is 100% satisfied with the end result.

Finally, I put the perfectly retouched photo on a flash drive that is given to my client at the end of the session so there is no hassle and no waiting for their photos. It’s the one-stop-shop for a headshot!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is defined by having a healthy work-life balance. It’s great to have a flourishing business with steady profits, but if you’re miserable day in and day out, then I don’t find that a total success.
