So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a managing partner at Quantum Security here in Atlanta. I’m the guy executives call when they want to outwit their attackers. I’ve been consulting in InfoSec for over 15 years now and have been fortunate enough to be able to spend time on both sides of the InfoSec coin, from dealing with NSM in Security Operations Centers to leading Red Team engagements where we physically break into customer facilities.
From my experience and passion for cybersecurity, I’ve been blessed with being able to work with various Fortune 500 companies and some of the best InfoSec consultants in the industry.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not. Having made my living as a consultant for most of my career there have definitely been ups and downs. From starting my own company and not knowing how I was going to pay my rent, To health issues and living off of bologna sandwiches. But I’m reminded of a quote by Tony Robbins where he said, “God is more interested in your character than he is your circumstances.” And as a Christian when I’m dealing with struggles and feel defeated, God is at his strongest. At the end of the day, that’s what’s allowed me to succeed and become successful. After all, you can’t have the sweet without the sour.

What were you like growing up?
I was lucky to grow up with a curious nature. I always wanted to know how things worked. My family was also avid readers and I think the combination of those two things really set me up for success. I had an early love of computers but unfortunately, my family didn’t have the means to afford one. Despite this, I would read every computer book I could get my hands on and would fill up notebooks with handwritten commands and programs. One of those books that I read was “Computer Crimes” and it completely blew my mind. After that computer security pretty much became my passion. I would have my mom drop me off at the library where I would sit in front of an old IBM PC with a dial-up 14.4k modem for hours. With my notebook in hand, I would visit any BBS (bulletin board system) I could find looking for more information on “hacking”. One day as luck would have it, a guy in his late teens happened to see my screen and introduced himself. He was the first real “hacker” I’d ever met. He took me under his wing and began sharing everything he knew. From there I guess you could say the rest is history.
