– IMDb Mini Biography By KJB Media Networks
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been an amazing journey yet one that hasn’t always been kind to my pockets and lifestyle. As a single mother of two who also takes care of her Mother when I didn’t have a corporate job to maintain my lifestyle, pursuing my career as an actress was extremely difficult. Because there’s no traditional blueprint in this industry we as actors are not only tasked with being creative in our art but also being creative in how we maintain a nontraditional lifestyle of being an entrepreneur aka starving artist. I can remember having 4 freelance gigs at one time on several occasions because you simply cannot predict when you will book the next “good paying” GIG! Believe it or not, these 4 GIGs simultaneously still didn’t pay the bills. I truly value the essence of not living beyond your means and it taught me to learn how to survive on an “as need” basis.
In addition, there are so many variables and uncontrollable. Once you learn to control what you can and allow the other chips to fall where they may, you begin to have a peace of mind. As an actor, my job is to audition and leave it all in the room. You will save yourself a lot of mental anguish if you practice this and stick to it!
I’ve learned that working on my craft, be it training, studying and auditioning, You will always be prepared. And if you’re always prepared then that preparation has allowed you to be ready when the opportunity presents itself.
Lastly, there will be more Naysayers than Yaysayers. People will tell you WHO you are, WHAT you can and can’t do and WHY you can’t do it. I’ve learned to dismiss the cognitive dissonance and to stay the course. GOD didn’t put this in me for me to not share it with others.
Please tell us more about what you do.
I AM an Artist a.k.a. Actress and I’m sensitive about my ART!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I recently starred in a stage play “DIGNITY” at Morehouse College which tackled the sensitive topic of Mental. Illness in the Black Community. It was a very heavy role which truly allowed me to grow in patience and empathy and also gain a better understanding of Mental Illness. You can also catch me daily on a local Delta Community Credit Union Commercial and I recently booked a principal role in a SAG Feature Film. In addition, I continue to audition and stay on top of my game! I’m also in the process of creating and pitching a scripted project. My faith, spiritually and Balance are key to maintaining a successful and productive career (s)! I’ve got some great projects on the horizon so stay tuned!
