Today we’d like to introduce you to Nnaemeka Keke.
Nnaemeka Keke, who was born in February 17th, 1997, emerged to the field of music as EMEZZY, excelling as an American/Nigerian Rapper, singer, and a songwriter. The name EMEZZY derived from his original name, Nnaemeka. Nnaemeka was constantly called by the shorten form of “Emmy” during his younger days, which ultimately convinced him to develop EMMY to “EMEZZY”. He was professionally named as EMEZZY thereafter. Nnaemeka, who initially reached the multitude by the name of Yung Rick, began his career in music at a very tender age. The immense enthusiasm that he possessed in foreign music created an arena for him to capture the audience, with the releasing of his first song in year 2014, featuring Faybian, titled as “No love in the street”. The song hit the records, which eventually made him top the lists as an emerging, gifted singer who has mastered a rapping technique which was unique to his own. EMEZZY’s music career reached a crescendo once he moved to ATL in year 2015.
Born and raised in the heart of Nigeria (Lagos), EMEZZY had great passion towards leading artists in the industry, like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Drake and Future, whom he considered his role models, who paved the path for him to walk through this journey and be distinctive in his own style. After branding himself as a pop artist with the release of No Love in The Street, which had a touch of “Trap Queen” beat to it, EMEZZY gained fame as he spawned his single “Link Up” in year 2017. EMEZZY was raised in a military base with his two siblings, as his father was working for the Navy. In the latter part of 2007, EMEZZY and his family moved out from the military zone upon retirement of his father. With the demise of his father in year 2012, his mother brought them to Atlanta in year 2015. Before officially graduating from ABC Royal High School, EMEZZY had his prior education in Nigeria Navy Secondary school and subsequently in Nowa Secondary school. After graduation, EMEZZY made a kick off on his recordings. He developed his talents early in life and eventually was noted for his distinctive raspy voice. He is also an entrepreneur through his own record labels.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it hasn’t been a smooth road down the road… there are times where I don’t get any support and you know as an independent artist, the struggle out there is real for us. I used to work extra hours whenever I wanna put out a single or project out there because I know There’s no management or record deal to finically provide all my needs. Also, there are times my mom disagree with me doing music because she feels I might drop out of collage to chase my dream fully. So right now, it kinda hard… tryna go to school working and putting music out there…I’m hardly constant on the internet because of all this. So yes, it’s been a really tough one for me along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Right now I’m currently working as a Salesman for the Home Depot. For now, I’m working towards getting my nursing degree which I’m in school for now. I’m known for making hip-Pop and African music right now. I’m proud of the man I’m becoming and where my musical career is leading me to right now. I see the rage in me trying to do something different from this other Artist… I don’t wanna be known as that hip pop artist or R&B singer. I wanna be known as that artist who does different types of music for his fans. You know people be asking me how you make foreign music and you still do African songs too. The truth is I don’t wanna settle for less. That what sets me apart from the other artist out there.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see my music revolving around the world in 2-3 years time… I see myself partnering with other big record label in the future… I’m so determined for success.. right now, I own an independent record label all by myself .. it called “S.B.G Records” and hoping someday I could grow it into something big like this other record label.
