Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayne Coles
Hi Shayne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I think I started everything by dancing at a young age. I was being introduced to a lot of things like Professional Singing, Modeling, Makeup, and Theatre. When I was about 19 I started modeling a little bit and then during Covid is when I got signed! That’s when everything kind of took off really! I realized that I enjoy doing a lot of artistic things outside of modeling and started identifying myself as a Multimedia Artist!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was definitely not smooth. Trying to be a paid artist is tedious and frustrating sometimes. I personally struggle with pricing myself/work sometimes and think about if I’m not good enough. I came to realize that as you gain more experience and more practice, it’s OK to start charging for your work and it’s OK for you to pick your own rates! I will say that I’ve came a long way and I’m still constantly learning and growing in my work. This year I’ve been in a place where I’m happy at my pace and I’m proud of myself!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I mostly do is Model but as of recently I’ve been getting into styling for people in my community! I also dabble in Photography, Creative Directing, PR, Graphic Design, and occasionally Dancing, Acting, and Singing! I would say I’m mostly proud of the public relations route I’m taking. I’ve always been into fashion and community and being able to volunteer for NYFW twice and meeting so many friends who are also into that has been a dream!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
This is a hard question really…I feel like I am a lucky person when it comes to certain things! I’m a very positive person and I tend to put myself into positions that I know will be good for me and hopefully something will come from it? I believe that hard work and drive has helped me more than luck when it comes to my work!
