Today we’d like to introduce you to Toddrick Butler.
Hi Toddrick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was introduced to music as a child. I grew up listening to all the different genres of music my dad would listen to and I fell in love with it. I fell in love with what Michael Jackson could do musically and I wanted to be like that one day. I grew up in the church singing in the choir and that was the place that gave me my soulful vocals. I started recording as a teenager on different software but only for fun. I started on my journey of pursuing in music in college but that didn’t work out due to my surroundings and people not taking it seriously. Which brings me to now, a more mature man and artist. Knowing where I want to be within music and knowing what I have to offer, I’ve been grinding nonstop since December of 2019.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This musical journey has been nowhere near smooth. I’ve struggled with whether I’m good enough and whose going to accept my sound being that I’m from Pearson, GA. Once I came to realize that I am good enough, I struggled with what was the best way to market myself. This leads to me thinking are the right people paying attention and seeing what I’m doing. I’m active military so I’m in a city where nobody knows me, so how do I get myself out there. There’s been a time where I felt like giving up but I’m always given a sign that tells me that I’m where I need to be.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an active duty service member in the Army. I’ve been serving for almost eight years now. My job is an IT Specialist. The majority of my work deals with help desk and various computer systems.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
God keeps me rooted and grounded in life. I’ve learned to walk by faith and not on what I can physically see. Family makes me happy also. Knowing that I can be the best that I can be for my family and my kids look to me as their hero is a wonderful feeling. Music makes me happy as well. I can have the worse day and jump into my studio and walk out as nothing happens. Music is very therapeutic for me and it allows me to share my thoughts and feelings that I know others can relate to.
