Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaye and Kay.
Hi Kaye and Kay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We met at Georgia State in a Georgia Film Academy class and it was just by coincidence that it came up that we both shared the same love for Ariana Grande as a person and as an artist. We saw a lot of similar clothing companies that were equally inspired by her, creating fan-made clothing with references to her music and style. Some of these companies Ariana’s supported personally on her social media, but whenever we wanted to show our support as well, there was something we felt we still wanted more of. It wasn’t until a year and a half after we met that we decided “should we do this?”
With our marketing and film experience and knowing our audience (having been fans for almost a decade now), in January 2021, we figured why the heck not.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
To be honest, it’s been pretty smooth sailing. That’s not to say that we haven’t been putting in the work, sweat, and tears. But we’re a great team and this business just flows naturally. We’re basically selling to ourselves and we constantly ask ourselves: what would we want in a business and would I buy this?
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We make merch fan-inspired by the biggest pop star today, Ariana Grande. We specialize in clothing and accessories for all fans or people who like cute crewnecks. Like unless you know all the inside jokes, you wouldn’t know by looking at our pieces that it was a pop culture reference.
We personally are proud of how we turned our love and passion into a business and a community. How many people can say they make money doing and celebrating something or someone they look up to? We curated a safe space where we’re the boss and we aren’t afraid to talk or express our feelings on the issues concerning us today. We donate a proceed of our profits often just because the cause is close to our hearts, not because it’s Pride Month or Hawaiian History Month, but we celebrate these people and cultures every single day.
In our niche, what sets us apart for sure is the way we engage and connect with our audience. We treat our followers like their mutuals and through that, we’ve genuinely become friends because we’re all fans of Ariana. We don’t ever let a message go unread, we reply to all their personal stories, we have a close friends list, and we’re honest to a fault. We communicate and we just go above and beyond when it comes to taking care of our people.
What makes you happy?
Kaye: Good food, good people, and good experiences. Life is short and we’re in such a weird time where we are forced to work, pay bills, sleep, and repeat, taking the small things to heart and enjoying life’s little moments is what’s really important to me and what keeps me going.
Kay: Making people laugh and taking care of myself. I really enjoy making people laugh and having good energy around me and just being around positivity because you never know what people are going through and life is short. Not only that, but taking care of my mental and physical health is important because you’re the only you, you’re ever going to have.
