Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Stumpe.
Hi Michele, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
By day, I’m a hospitality attorney and litigator – in my “free” time, I love working with non-profits. I have had my own businesses in the past and am a founding member of the Giving Kitchen (which provides emergency assistance to food service workers through financial support and a network of community resources). I’m also the co-founder of Children of Conservation, which empowers impoverished communities in Africa to build personal prosperity through conservation and positive climate actions and sustainable measures.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge is time. It’s really taught me how important it is to have a great team of people who share similar goals in order to attain exponential impact. With Children of Conservation, we run into the challenges of fundraising for projects that aren’t local. People often ask “why Africa?” However, there’s a vast amount of evidence that establishes the importance of Sub-Saharan Africa to the rest of the world, particularly in the areas of social equity, climate change and medicine.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our projects are custom designed to work from the root of an issue in partnership with the communities we serve. They promote a sustainable “buy in” where positive impacts on conservation and the environment also drive empowerment of women and girls, social equity and improvements in human welfare. For example, our Myende 17 project encompasses all 17 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
