Meet Glenn Burroughs of Sweat Equity Fitness in Old Fourth Ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenn Burroughs.

Glenn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from Chicago, Illinois. I first fell in love with fitness in high school, after training every offseason for football and track and field. After high school, I attended Hampton University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education in 2010. While at Hampton I interned at Velocity Sport Performance and was hired as a sports performance specialist While also at Hampton I worked as a personal trainer at Bally Total Fitness. In 2012 I earned a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Georgia State University while at Georgia State I worked as a personal trainer at LA Fitness. In 2013 after dealing with a plethora of uneducated and incompetent bosses I quit LA Fitness and created Sweat Equity Fitness. I felt there was an open market for people looking for quality personal trainers that have degrees in exercise science related fields. After saving for two and a half years, on December 30th, 2016 I opened Sweat Equity Fitness first private training studio, dedicated only to personal training, group training, and boot camps.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a roller coaster and a very rocky road. Between moving to a brand new city with no family in 2010, and working 60 hours a week between my graduate assistantship at Georgia State and personal training at LA Fitness, while also being a full-time graduate student. When I quit my job at LA Fitness in March of 2013, I had a vision and plan of what I wanted to accomplish as an entrepreneur with Sweat Equity Fitness, but I did not have any guidance. I trained in various apartments I lived in, traveled to clients, and trained in various parks across Atlanta until I kept telling myself that I needed to find my own space for my company. After four months of looking at different commercial spaces, I finally found a landlord willing to rent to me a corner property on one of the most visible streets in Atlanta.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sweat Equity Fitness – what should we know?
Sweat Equity Fitness was established in March of 2013, as an alternative for personal training clients, who are looking to train at a private health and wellness studio. Our studio is dedicated to personal training, group training, and boot camps. What separates Sweat Equity Fitness from most other personal trainers, is that all of our trainers have obtained either a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in fields related to Exercise Science such as Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, or Health and Physical Education.

At Sweat Equity Fitness we believe in providing each client with a trainer who is not only educated at the highest level but also has experience working with a variety of different clients. Each trainer will keep you motivated, dedicated, and committed to help you reach your goals.
