Today we’d like to introduce you to Kourtney Jorge.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kourtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
On February 15, 2017, my life changed forever. I went from my everyday routine to a viral sensation and influencer – overnight. I gained notoriety with the release of the Condé Nast produced “Broken” video from their web series ‘The Scene’. The video, nicknamed #HurtBae amassed more than 50 million views worldwide across a variety of social platforms. It felt like everyone in the world knew about my relationship or lack thereof, people would often stop me in the street, on the subway (as I lived in NYC at the time), and even at work and continue to do so to this day.
The video has provided me with a platform for my modeling, acting, and influencer career with a social following of over 270,000 on Instagram alone. Even though the video was about a heart-wrenching breakup, there is always a silver lining and for that I am grateful.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Becoming an influencer overnight was no walk in the park as some may assume. I was praised for my strength in leaving the relationship behind, but with an online following so large, it inevitably came with a few internet trolls.
Another thing I had to get used to was the fame, I was a fairly well-liked, popular girl growing up, but no amount of popularity can prepare you for something so life-changing. Right after the video, I felt as though the whole world was watching me – in real life. I still hear people whispering “that’s the girl from the video, that’s the girl from the video!” It’s still shocking to me but at the same time, it’s pretty cool.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a model, actor, and influencer. After going viral, I was given a platform to express my passion for fashion. I’ve modeled for brands such as Sephora and YSL. Modeling for YSL was definitely one of the highlights of my career. One of my proudest modeling moments so far was getting a deal with online fashion boutique Fashion Nova. I’ve also recently signed to SALT model – a modeling agency here in Atlanta!
This past summer, I filmed my first independent movie, “Trunk” directed by Rob III World Films, and it is currently in post-production. This was a proud moment for me as I’ve been acting in since I was in the sixth grade. It feels good to be able to do what I love.
As an influencer, I love to uplift women. Ever since I could remember, I’ve loved everything about women’s empowerment. As a Spelman graduate, I try to show young girls the power they hold in themselves by leading by example.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family deserves a lot of credit. When everything began to unfold after the video, they were always there for me if I needed a shoulder to cry on or some uplifting words. They’ve continuously supported me on this journey and have been extremely supportive. My boyfriend has also been one of my greatest cheerleaders and motivators.
