Meet Marlonda Currie of Defined Sugaring Studio in East Andrews Drive

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlonda Currie.

A beauty entrepreneur with a driving passion for skincare ~ healthy skincare was on a mission. A self-proclaimed skincare junkie, licensed medical esthetician, and MBA graduate, owner, Marlonda Currie, fell in love with body sugaring at first sight. She simply had to learn more. After spending a week in Canada learning how to sugaring, retuning back to Atlanta mastering this amazing technique, Marlonda’s entrepreneurial spirit and desire to share the benefits of body sugaring with others prompted her to launch Defined Sugaring Studio in Atlanta followed by her organic and natural product line.

Has it been a smooth road?
When I opened DSS I did not have one client. However, my Type A personality, six months of working capital, a supportive husband, and my FAITH was my driving force. For three months, I literally gave away services to anyone that would lay on my beds. My fourth month I broke even, and every since then, DSS has been financially thriving.

Defined Sugaring Studio is one of a kind in the Atlanta Metro area, simply because DSS does one thing and one thing only SUGAR BABY. We are committed to organic, natural hair removal THEN we focus on teaching our clients how to maintain healthy skin by implementing our handmade signature “Two Step” home care system.

Why Sugar?

You may have heard sugaring described as “the new smooth in hair removal.” Though sugaring is gaining attention, it’s actually an ancient hair removal practice that originated in the Middle East. Sugaring uses an all-natural, non-grainy paste made from sugar, water, and lemon juice. It gently removes hair follicles from their roots. Sugaring is the most gentle, natural, and longest-lasting treatment available to eliminate unwanted hair from all areas of the body. Sugaring is suitable for men, women, and teens with all skin types, hair textures, and skin sensitivities.

Using only 100 percent natural and biodegradable ingredients, sugaring exfoliates the skin and removes hair in its natural direction. This eliminates both breakage and in-grown hairs. With sugaring, it becomes possible to remove hair as short as 1/16 inch. Results can last up to six weeks.

Q. You often use the phrase, “Two-Steps to defining your distinctive beauty.” What are those two steps?

A. That’s easy: The Body Exfoliator and Exception-all — in that order.

You have to properly exfoliate with the right blend of natural and organic ingredients. Q. Why did you create this two-step treatment?

A. To solve the all-too-common problems of ingrown hairs, red bumps, razor burns and skin discoloration. Both men and women suffer from ingrown hairs, and this problem is exacerbated by waxing, depilatories, electrolysis, and shaving with a razor.

Men and women stop waxing and shaving! Why? Because waxing irritates the skin, which when done repeatedly (especially not well) can cause chronic skin irritation and scarring. The razor then introduces its own set of problems like nicks and cuts, bacteria, and red, inflamed bumps. Alternate hair removal processes like electrolysis and hair removal creams are no better. Electrolysis can cause scarring, infection, and a condition called hyperpigmentation, which is a darkening of the skin. Creams can burn the skin. Waxing, electrolysis, creams, and shaving may remove undesired hair, but are you willing to pay the price of ingrown hairs and irritated skin? These methods are often self-perpetuating processes that make matters worse.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The diversity of people is amazing, a melting pot of personalities that collectively creates a thriving healthy city living.

The traffic is my least favorite but it helps that I live in Buckhead, so my drive is 5 minutes on a slow day and 25 minutes when Peachtree is crawling with cars. My husband and our 10 years son love living in the city ~ would not live any place else.
