Meet Simi Muhumuza of Simimoonlight

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simi Muhumuza.

Simi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always cared deeply about mental health. Ever since I was young, I was always very perceptive of people’s feelings. I spent most of my life leaning towards topics of mental health, but I didn’t start incorporating it into my brand “simimoonlight” until recently. I wanted to show others that vulnerability, honesty, and introspection are things we should embrace in our lives, especially within our black communities. Many people lean away from the intensity of emotions, but my brand is all about embracing those parts of ourselves.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been easy discussing mental health, especially as a black person because many people don’t understand certain topics and their initial reaction is to reject it. It took a long while for people to start embracing the way that I discuss emotions and the importance of them.

Please tell us about Simimoonlight.
My brand is all about mental health.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Throughout my life, I’ve kept to myself. I didn’t have many friends because I didn’t like getting close to people. But all of that changed when I met my best friend, Araba Brew. She’s the Co-founder of Redefining Ravens, and one of the few people that has helped me in my mental health journey.
