Meet Truitt Taylor of Taylor Design Shop and One Percent Podcast in Smyrna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Truitt Taylor.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Truitt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After spending ten years in the education sales industry, I took a leap of faith and decided to follow my two great passions, building furniture and sharing stories from cancer warriors and survivors.

In August 2017, I created Taylor Design Shop and began making furniture out of my garage. Over the past year and a half, our company has grown from a 400 sq foot garage into a large warehouse and our work has been featured in homes, retail and commercial spaces and magazines all over the city. As of January 2019, we have expanded into the home renovation space.

As if balancing a new business wasn’t enough, in September of 2018 I started the One Percent Podcast. On the podcast, I interview young adults who are battling and surviving cancer, caregivers and providers. After being diagnosed and surviving stage 3 colon cancer at the age of 31, I know first hand how important community can be for those battling cancer. The podcast has provided a much-needed community for young adults all over the world as it educates, inspires and provides hope for young adults on their cancer journey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship is never an easy road. There were moments when I would lay in bed at night and ponder going back to the financial secure office job I’d had for so many years but that would have been the easy way out. If God’s called you to a specific purpose, He will always make a way for things to work out.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Taylor Design Shop and One Percent Podcast story. Tell us more about the business.
Taylor Design Shop:
We specialize in custom furniture, built-ins, and remodeling. We are known for excellent craftsmanship, customer service, and innovative designs. What sets us apart is we spend a significant time with our clients prior to building their project. We want to create a functional, unique space that will perfectly represent our client’s lifestyle.

One Percent Podcast:
Specializes in mental health awareness for young adults who are battling or surviving cancer. The podcast has been downloaded in over 20 countries across the world and is known for the raw, authentic conversations being held each episode. What sets the podcast apart is that it’s tailored towards young adults and incorporates all types of cancer.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m more reluctant to rely on faith over the notion of luck. Everything and everyone we encounter is tied together. Many times in ways we can’t explain. I have to believe there’s a larger purpose for our connections and events based on the circumstances of my life and other’s I’ve interviewed or encountered.
