Today we’d like to introduce you to Yazzmine Colbert.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my start in marketing as an intern in college, working for non-profits and agencies to gain experience. My senior year I was hired as the marketing coordinator of Dave and Buster’s Jacksonville, where I was in charge of creating and managing the local store Facebook page. In seven months-time, I grew their Facebook page to 1,900 followers. Shortly after graduating from college, I got a job at a popular digital marketing agency working in their Facebook department. After a few months of working there, I noticed the bad practices the company was using to acquire new clients and they lacked providing results for their customers. This didn’t sit well with me because I was helping them take advantage of small businesses so I decided to start a blog to take my mind off of the job.
To be honest, I failed two times at starting a business before I made a profit. My first blog was a lifestyle blog called With Love, YC and it failed because I wasn’t consistent or passionate about it and I had a tough time coming up with content. My second attempt at a business was after I left the digital marketing company to work at my local iHeartMedia radio station. While I was working there in radio sales, I had the opportunity to voice commercials and I was featured on segments with the local DJ’s as a new personality called Shawty Luvv. This prompted me to start my own entertainment blog called ThisShawtyluvvs. My opportunity to be on-air didn’t last long because I was later told to stay in my lane and with legal pressure, I quit my blog.
After two failed attempts, I asked God to give me a sign of what my purpose was. He told me to start a marketing company to help brands and small businesses grow their online presence. With $500 in debt from my first two failed business ventures and a mustard seed of faith, I launched YC Creative Enterprise and sold my first digital product to my mom. After that, I made my first $500 in business with less than 500 followers.
Now I’ve vowed to show entrepreneurs and small business owners how they can do it, too. Social media marketing is not as hard as people think, but with the right tools and strategies, you can grow your exposure and sales to impact the world!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road for me at all. Making money on a consistent basis in my business has been a struggle for me, but I refused to let it get me down. I also struggle with staying motivated and facing my fears. I’ve only been in business for one year and I recently transitioned into full-time entrepreneurship as of December 2018. I use books and podcasts to help me stay motivated. I often consult my mentor for business advice and she helps me combat my fears of failing. So far I’ve learned that persistence is what the winners are made of. So as long as I keep God first, work hard and never quit, then the possibilities are endless for my life and business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with YC Creative Enterprise, LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company is amazing because we are a digital media agency that helps brands and small businesses grow their online presence through social media marketing, management, coaching and consulting. We have 8+ years of marketing experience and we specialize in working with food and service-based businesses. I enjoy working with restaurants specifically because I love the restaurant business. I know what it’s like to be in the front of the house, back of the house, serving and cooking the meals. It all about the customer’s experience. What makes my agency different from other social media agencies is that we aim to showcase your customer’s experience with your restaurant in realtime in the online space.
My coaching and consulting services are one-of-a-kind. We focus on helping millennial women master and monetize their social media platforms with digital products, creating a new stream of income for their life and business. We work with bloggers, coaches and consultants to help them package their expertise into an ebook, webinar or course to sell to their community. There’s more than one way to make money online and I am committed to showing as many women as I can how to do it!
I’m most proud of how I’ve been able to impact the lives of women, giving them a new stream of income to support their family.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to hosting my own events to teach more entrepreneurs about the power of social media. My goal is to help 100 women in 2019 grow their brand’s online presence and make more money in their lives and business.
My plan is to host a series of FREE masterclass es to teach women entrepreneurs a different topic about social media marketing. Eventually, I will package all my classes into a course that will allow people to work at their own pace to learn what it takes to effectively grow their online presence.
