Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Wolff Bush.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My event planning history started years ago during my career as a subcontractor in the NASCAR community. I had the opportunity to travel 36 weeks out of the year, creating brand imaging and marketing materials, planning driver/team fan club events and corporate sponsor/hospitality events, planning race team travel, and communicating with the media. Life took a much slower pace after starting a family and settling back down in Augusta. But, the creative genes only grew stronger. I developed a passion and niche for creating high-end wedding cakes, as Beyond Usual Cakes, LLC. During that time, My Unreal Wedding, LLC, was created, out of a desire to showcase my work in a unique way and bring along the talents of fellow wedding pros. I created a mock wedding expo, where brides could see our work in a natural wedding environment, connect with our products or services, and truly be inspired. In March of 2017, my cake career was cut short, thanks to an auto accident. While that was a hard loss, it allowed for tremendous opportunities for growth in the full-time expo, brand imaging, and event planning business. It’s clearly in my blood, as my heart races and my soul ignites, every time I have the opportunity to create an event – no matter the size, occasion, or theme!
Please tell us about your art.
My Unreal Events is the Services division of the company… Event Planning, Styling and Design, and Brand Imaging. This is where my creative side gets to shine! Being an outside-the-box thinker, nothing I do is ordinary. I’m just not wired that way! I’m a visualizer. In other words, whether it’s an event venue or a product branding, in an instant, I can envision every last detail. The result is a gorgeous wedding or event or images of your products that represent your brand in the most extraordinary way. Finding unique, yet economically savvy ways to create that picture-perfect look is a side bonus! My absolute favorite thing to hear, in one form or another, has been, “I don’t think you’re capable of anything less than unreal.” And, I’d have to agree!
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Throughout this interview, my wording has changed from “I” to “we.” That’s because along this journey I learned, the hard way, that being a unique, creative thinker means you will face the challenge of being alone and misunderstood. Sometimes, even those who love you dearly will see you struggle, but not understand that part of the journey to success requires some miserable growing pains, not understanding that’s what is needed to get you to your destination. So, I found a weekly group of, “Strategic Power Partners,” who are not only like-minded, but inspire, refer each other, and strategize together. So, that is my absolute, best advice – Find your tribe! This group is great and we’d love to have you, but find the one that works best for you and your schedule – one you will actually commit to. That’s the key, committing to it, every single week or month, somewhere you will go faithfully and create relationships and accountability while receiving education and encouragement. Also, look for others with whom you can collaborate on a project, rather than focusing solely on those within your craft area. You never know how someone else’s vision might inspire you, just at the right time, just in the right way. Working together on a common goal should be beneficial for everyone. I am very blessed to have found a few key people with whom I adore working, who “get” my creative vision – without much explanation, and with whom I can trust my business name and my friendship. With that, I say a huge thank you to Kristi Cook, of Honestly Sweet Gifts, because, when it comes to pulling together a vision, she is the yin to my yang, the chill to my OCD, the process to my thought. That, my friends, is what makes a successful business!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
The last Sunday of every August, at the Columbia County Exhibition Center, we produce My Unreal Wedding Expo. This is the perfect example of everything My Unreal Wedding, LLC, has to offer. It is, of course, the ultimate in events, where the brides have the opportunity to meet a wide variety of wedding industry professionals in their bridal expo booths. But, what else makes it Unreal? We also design, plan, and coordinate four fully-styled mock wedding settings, all within this one event. Then, we invite our “guests” to attend, look, touch, take pics, be inspired, and meet the pros who provided every item within all four “weddings.” If we can do four weddings and an expo, all at once, imagine what we can do for one single event! To view specific examples of our Services, check out the Events, Brand Imaging, and Expos tabs on our MyUnrealEvents.com website. If you hear of anyone who would benefit from our event planning or branding services, please send them to our website. And, we’d be honored if you’d follow our social media pages and show some love, comment, and share things that inspire.
