Today we’d like to introduce you to Rufus and Jenny Triplett.
Rufus, originally from Flint, Michigan, is a talented singer, songwriter, and producer. He co-wrote, produced and toured for the platinum group Ready for the World in the late 80’s. He chose to broaden his horizons in the United States Marine Corps where he went to school for Culinary Arts. After relocating to Atlanta in the early 90’s, he found a love for computers and has become a technology geek. Not only can he build them from scratch but he has become the “go to” guy for all of his family members.
Jenny, originally from Saginaw, Michigan, always aspired for a career in media. Starting out as an intern at a radio station, she established a relationship with several entertainers and Ready for the World, where she went on to head their marketing outreach team. Jenny also chose to explore the military where she earned an LMET (Leadership, Management, Education & Training) Certification, one of the highest certifications from the military and gained a wealth of knowledge and experience during her time in the United States Navy.
After marrying Rufus and relocating to Atlanta, Jenny headed her own entertainment company for over 14 years. Their flourishing company was halted during the time Jenny dealt with a legal issue and a brief period of incarceration. The Triplett’s do not consider that a dark period in their lives because their marriage grew stronger and they bonded to the point where their relationship became unshakeable.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship is never easy. It’s always a struggle of some sort. Either you’re not getting enough sleep because you don’t have the time or not converting enough sales cause you don’t have the money. It takes patience, perseverance, and purpose. If you are living a life of just making money, the purpose lacks. If you find yourself getting up everyday even though the money is light, you have found a passion, which makes you money.
Diversity and inclusion have been a big hurdle as well. We are African-American Muslims which is a largely marginalized demographic. We are slowly making an impact but we get largely overlooked for events, speaking engagements, and other opportunities. Although we have been fortunate to be profiled in the media, getting media coverage for Muslims and their businesses is quite difficult.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dawah International story. Tell us more about the business.
Dawah International is a multimedia company. Dawah means to teach in Arabic. We encompass print, radio, TV & digital media. We publish books, produce a podcast, create media projects and mentor people towards entrepreneurship.
We co-own the company and Rufus and Jenny are a subcategory under the company. We are most proud of the reach that we have behind the walls with inmates and their families and the work that we have done with helping people with their marriages, around the world.
What sets us apart is that we have honed in on a niche that was underserved. We are a husband and wife team that works towards strengthening the Black family.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We don’t believe in luck. We have been tremendously blessed to still be in business. So many business doors are closing. But because of our niche, there is still much work to do.
