Meet Symphony Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Symphony Thompson.

Symphony, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Looking back, one of the most frightening questions I was asked as a child was “what do you want to be when you grow up”. That loaded question can really throw a kid for a loop. Think about it, a kid barely knows what their favorite color is, their favorite food, heck a kid can barely tell you who their favorite cartoon character is. Okay, maybe they can but you get my point.

I started out wanting to be a lawyer, then a teacher, then a psychiatrist, then a physical therapist, and even toyed with the idea of being a photographer. Most people would hear that and think “she doesn’t know what she wants” or “she’s all over the place” but I would challenge that by asking does society give us room to figure out our desires or does it encourage us that working a 9-5 with good benefits is the only guarantee to success? I would argue that most would agree with the second question.

Although I knew my desire was to entertain people, I was so focused on being what the world said I should be. It was so bad that I turned down a huge audition in California in order to attend a track meet where college recruits would be. Let that sit for a minute. I turned down the thing that made me happy to do what others said made them happy.

So, I did what I thought was right. I left my hometown of Greenville, SC to attend Coastal Carolina University, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise & Sports Science, and although it had nothing to do with my degree, I got the corporate 9-5ish job. You would think that there would be fireworks and a huge party but no siry Bob. There was only a void and a paycheck that barely made ends meet.

Fast forward two years, after taking a leap of faith from Myrtle Beach, SC to Atlanta, GA, I have now interviewed hundreds of celebrities I grew up watching, been in rooms with corporations I purchase from and hosted events that range from a crowd of 20 to thousands of people. And truthfully and whole-heartedly, I give all glory to God. He placed some amazing people in my life so I would be doing a dishonor if I didn’t shout out Chris Kelly with KB Media Productions, Jerome Dorn with InDaHouse Media, Datrick Davis with DaeRae Media, Andrew Sims with Phrame Photography, and Ezron Benjamin with 106LiveRadio.com for assisting me in building my brand.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh gosh no but I didn’t expect it to be because most great things come with challenge. Before making the move to Atlanta, I arranged for my lease to end in SC and to move in with a family member once I got to Atlanta. But we all know things don’t always go as planned.

Once I found out that I was still required to pay rent in Myrtle Beach, I moved out of my family members place and into my car because I could not afford the two. For a while, no one knew but eventually, some friends of mine started to catch on and would force me to sleep in their spare room or crash on their couches. But with time and by the grace of God, I now have a home that I absolutely love and adore.

Symphony Thompson – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a free-lance event & media host, radio personality, and an actress. I host anything from one-on-one interviews to red carpet interviews to hosting events that assist in keeping the audience engaged. I am a co-host on 106LiveRadio.com and currently taking acting classes and working on my first SAG project.

I strongly believe that along with my talents, my ability to genuinely adapt to almost any situation, audience, and/or environment sets me apart from others and is what I do best. I would also say that my work ethic sets me apart and not because its “the right thing to say”. But because my work ethic is fueled by my aspiration to inspire both men and women to follow their dreams, regardless of how big they seem. I’ve never wanted to entertain people just for the fun of it but for a greater purpose of inspiring and helping others.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is having my will aligned with God’s will and actually living it out. If I am able to make a difference in someone’s life by simply using the gifts I was given, then that my friends is what I call success on steroids!
