Today we’d like to introduce you to Cerah Ceesay.
Cerah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always had a passion for entrepreneurship. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work for myself. I started my business Ceesay Banjul my junior year at Clark Atlanta University. I worked very hard to save 3000 for my first inventory (it was literally only a couple of clothing items and accessories). I was also very aware of the importance of marketing, so I was fortunate to team up with a YouTube influencer by the name of Aaliyah Jay who helps me get my exposure up. After having Ceesay Banjul for a couple of years, I became interested in retail estate and decided to expand Ceesay Banjul and create a real estate section called The CB Estate
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
NOT AT ALL. I’ve had so many obstacles I can’t even name them all. The main obstacle had to do with being able to keep the momentum going as far as sales and marketing. It has also been tough working with influencers due to nowadays, it’s hard to find people who are truly worth what they are charging (most are not). I also struggle with maintaining my confidence in my success, some days I would feel so drained and want to quit due to feeling like I wasn’t progressing how I would have liked to
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Ceesay Banjul – For my online store what sets me apart is the fact that we do not chase trends. Of course, we make sure to have a collection on trendy pieces but our goal is not to be a “Trendy Instagram Boutique” we are focus on QUALITY, not quantity.
The CB Estate- What makes my real estate portion different is the fact that I want to focus on the millennials that not only want to be new home buyers but also own business and want to invest in commercial properties. The CB Estate main goal is to educate our generation and help guide them through the real estate process
What were you like growing up?
Nobody would believe this, but I grew up shy at first until I found my voice( it was OVER once that happened). I had the typical African upbringing, my family was all about education and having a strong work ethic. Growing up, I was interested in creative things like dancing, arts and craft, and fashion.
