Check out Tacinda LaShell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tacinda LaShell.

Tacinda, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I remember being 6 or 7 years old, petite, and shyly spoken. My Aunt Rossie placed my sister, Renee, and I both in the youth choir of Mt. Zion Baptist church, Soperton, GA. We were entirely new to choir, or even singing in front of holy saints every 1st Sunday, but eventually, we got used to it. Indeed, it was recognized by Mrs. Harris, the director, and piano player, and I was given my very first solo to sing. Rehearsals were probably perfect because I was so used to singing around my youthful peers. But, eventually the time came for me to lead the song that we’ve rehearsed for weeks, and it was terrible! I cried through the entire performance. There were so many eyes focusing their attention on me, and it was just too much for a shyly spoken 6 or 7-year old. But, eventually, I’ve gotten over that fear through my musically talented family members. Most of my performances came from acting, dancing, singing, and playing at piano recitals. I can even step like the Divine 9. But, singing was a passion for priority. Singing just has my heart.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a fairly new artist with only one song out. But, I’ve written music ever since I was a child. I drew myself into watching my mother write her own music and play the piano. I have a story to share, just like everyone does. So, I sing narrative tales about my real life experiences. For me, writing songs is equivalent to owning a diary. But, writing songs isn’t the only thing I enjoy when it comes to creating. Also, learning different harmony placements is what I feel like carries the song. I’ve learned different harmony techniques in church, of course. But, secularly, I was a die-hard fan of Destiny’s Child, and I fell in love with how hip, smooth, and technical their harmonizations carried in each song, especially in most of their gospel medleys. What I’ve heard most about the music I create is that the arrangements (harmonies, and beat choice) always creates a certain type of mood that meshes well with my penmanship. I get flutters when my fans are able to relate to the lyrics and to feel whatever mood the song carries them into. Music is a universal tool to have and share. I want to make sure that my fans are getting their share of authentic vibes from me as long as I’m breathing.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
I was always afraid to live out my fullest dream, which is the reason I started so late into the music career. I wanted to go to Berklee College of Music after high school, and I wasn’t allowed because it was too far. I felt like I didn’t have a lot of supporters around me that encouraged my passion and to let me know that it was okay to go after what was mine. I was taught to have a Plan B or to find a more logical means of living. If there’s a passion to obtain, OBTAIN IT!! CHASE IT!! GO AFTER IT!! We were all born with a unique purpose to hold on to, so it isn’t anyone’s place to write it for you. Surround yourself with motivational speakers, and people who are chasing the same exact dream as you. Surround yourself with thinkers, even people who are better than you. They’ve already paved the way. Walk their path, until you can walk your own.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have a new single out now, “Flow.” You can find “Flow” on Spotify, Tidal, Soundcloud, and Apple Music. My IG username is tacindalashell, and my Facebook is Tacinda LaShell. A simple follow and a simple listen is enough. Thank you!
