Life and Work with Applemania Bradford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Applemania Bradford.

Applemania, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since the start of my career in 2010, I have been so blessed to have organically built relationships, maintained positivity and the same passion that led me to choose education as my career. Throughout the years, I have found myself encouraging others and others providing support to me. During Fall Break 2016, I and a group of educators planned a trip to Los Angeles, California. We spent time bonding, having thought-provoking discussions on real-life situations as educators, and did a community service project by packing lunches for construction workers building homes for low-income families. As we chronicled this on social media, I received such great response and we continued meeting, traveling and called ourselves Teacher B.A.E’s (Balanced and Educated).
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It took me three years to incorporate Teacher B.A.E, Inc., simply because I was trying to maintain a balanced life without feeling overwhelmed which often leads to anxiety. In 2017, I embarked on a new journey to obtain my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction as well as balancing my career as a teacher leader, mother, and wife. I knew I needed to get Teacher B.A.E, Inc. off the ground after planning another “Teacher B.A.E” getaway for some fellow educators and myself during our Spring break in 2018. With the support of my family and friends, who believed in the vision God had given me, I finally decided to take some time and money and incorporate my non-profit. My advice for any other women starting a nonprofit journey is to ensure you pray about it and have a village supporting you from the very start. Maximize your time and execute your plans as it was given to you.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a passionate educator, a charismatic leader, an innovator, wife, and mother. I am a two-time alumna of Florida A&M University. Over the past nine years, I have served as an educator, eight of those years have been within the Metro-Atlanta School District, I have has been committed to cultivating, empowering and serving my academic communities. I am currently a doctoral candidate pursuing a degree in curriculum and instruction. When I am not teaching or working on my dissertation, I spend time managing my nonprofit, Teacher B.A.E, Inc.
There are several professional organizations and membership programs for educators that empower and impact teachers, however, there are none (that I know of) that cater to unifying teachers together, making a bold and fearless impact beyond our classrooms and communities all while balancing our careers along with home and social life. Teacher B.A.E, Inc. is an educator-exclusive nonprofit organization that strives to improve teacher retention, redefine education, and helping our communities thrive. Our organization is membership driven and is a network that provides resources, support and mentorship among educators!
Teacher B.A.E, Inc. focuses on four pillars– M.U.A.H:
Mentorship and coaching for rookie teachers;
Unity among teachers;
Awareness [of] self and self-care; and,
Helping the community thrive
We are more than a #hashtag we are a movement and a lifestyle!
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?

There are so many opportunities that lend themselves exclusively for women. Uniquely, the strength of women will allow us to face obstacles and instead of being overwhelmed by it, we meet it head first and from that, opportunity is born! We are so creative in our thoughts and when we act upon those thoughts, magic happens. #BlackGirlMagic is real! To be honest, we have so much power within us and social media serves as vehicle enabling us to push agendas and change! It gives us an opportunity to shine a light on our platform and magnifying our “Midas Touch, pretty much anything we touch turns into gold!
