Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kia Fisher.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Fisher. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I went through sexual trauma, and in college, I was raped. I had moments of depression and attempted suicide. I got older, and I finished my undergraduate in Early Childhood Education and Human Services (Interdisciplinary Degree). I started teaching at-risk kids in Elementary school and realized that their trauma or poverty living affected their ability to learn. I went back to school to gain a Masters in Education and a Doctoral Degree in Psychology. I then gained employment during the time I was pursuing my Masters, at a Social Services Agency. I realized that my gift is to serve others. My purpose came from my pain, and now I help others to heal from their trauma, or I help individuals live with their mental and/or behavioral diagnosis in a productive way.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My struggle is the fact that I cannot save everyone that I have contact with, that needs help. Some cases are extremely sad, and as much as I want to provide a better life for them, I have to have boundaries. The other struggle was to make sure I was healed from my trauma. At any time, I could have been triggered. So, I healed in the process of already helping to heal others.
MindMatters Transformational Life Coaching & Wellness – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have a Life Coaching & Wellness Company. I help those who suffer from trauma, depression, anxiety, anger, etc. The services I offer is to help clients heal, and live their best lives. I am not the average Therapist/Life Coach. I focus on the mental, physical, behavioral, and spiritual health of the individual combined. I am most proud of the wellness component, where I combine meditation/Mindfulness physical fitness/personal training and talk therapy.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career has to be the day I opened my own practice. Being able to see clients in a safe space is amazing.
