Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Jackson.
Antonio, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My interest in media began at Stockbridge High School in my broadcast video productions class. I mostly did videography for the school news at this time. I continued with this throughout high school. I was not sure what I wanted to major in when I got to college because I had two passions: Medicine and Media. I decided to major in Biology on a pre-med track at Morehouse College and try to teach myself about media. Due to the strenuous nature of my major, I had to put media to the side for a while. When I enrolled in graduate school, I began to teach myself photography. It was at this time that “Tone Took It” was born. I was able to use photography as my creative outlet while continuing on my path towards becoming a physician. I then graduated with my Master’s in Biomedical Science from Barry University in Miami, FL. Shortly after, I applied and was ultimately accepted to medical school. Throughout this time, I was able to simultaneously begin to build a buzz around my photography brand. I am now currently a second-year medical student at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences in Toledo, I have a goal to find the intersection between media and medicine to bring light and awareness to medical ailments plaguing the communities we live in as well as to use media as a way to attract the youth to careers in the medical field.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The creation of “Tone Took It Photography” has not always been a smooth road. The biggest challenge has been balancing my two passions of becoming a physician and a dope photographer. The amount of time, commitment, and dedication it takes to become a doctor often hinders me in learning more about photography. Also, having to go from one state to the next for school made it slightly more difficult to grow my clientele within the city of Atlanta.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about “Tone Took It” – what should we know?
“Tone Took It Photography” is a brand that specializes in freelance and portrait photography. As a business and brand, I am most proud of helping other businesses grow and prosper. I am proud to be able to work with other entrepreneurs to create content that helps propel their business to another level. One thing that sets me apart from others is my professionalism and my willingness to personalize each package specifically for the client.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Selflessness has been the most important characteristic of my success. I understand that what I do in media or in medicine is not necessarily for me. It is to help better the client, their business, or their health. I am a firm believer that “When your passion becomes bigger than yourself, you cannot fail.”
