Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndsey Wright.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lyndsey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been working solely in photography for about 5 years but have had a camera attached to my hand for as long as I can remember. When people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, the first thing I can ever remember saying was “a photographer”. I started out by editing and assisting another photographer in the area. My first paid photography job had me on a surfboard in Hawaii photographing surfing lessons and I’ve been in love with my job ever since.
Has it been a smooth road?
Well, I gave up on the idea for quite a long time since everyone told me it wasn’t practical. You hear all the stories of starving artists and get a little intimidated… but I got lucky and stumbled into the editing and assisting job. I happened to cross paths at just the right time with someone who needed a full-time production person and since then it’s been a breeze. Everything just fell into place as soon as I decided to follow my heart instead of my head. A little faith in myself and a lot of passion for what I do has brought me a very long way. It’s definitely been a lot of work… but I embrace hard work and have never seen any of it as a struggle.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lyndsey Wright Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I got my start in corporate event photography and have since spread out into many other areas but my passions are weddings and fitness/martial arts photography. I am never happier than when I’m able to capture intense emotion. I find that while Martial Arts and weddings are miles apart, they’re the two places where I see the most honest emotion and it absolutely inspires me.
Weddings are just a joy to shoot. I’m a big sap and always end up choked up during the ceremonies like I’m watching my best friends get married every time. The fitness/martial arts end of things are very close to my heart for different reasons. I used to be 300 pounds and practically immobile from back injuries. Losing the weight and strengthening my body have completely changed my life. I went from hardly being able to walk and constantly scared of hurting myself to being healthy, strong, and constantly looking for new ways to challenge myself. The newfound athleticism and self-confidence led me to power fliting and MMA. I might be a little obsessed with both ha-ha So, naturally I love to photograph the things that I’m passionate about.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m doing things that I’ve been told repeatedly I will never be able to do… and I am so incredibly grateful what I get to do every day. There is gratitude in every moment of my day… and for every client I get the opportunity to interact with. I am incredibly fortunate to be able to say that I truly love my job and I owe that to the people who have enough confidence in me to hire me. My way to thank them is to make sure that they are getting everything they want and more in their images.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity in this city. I was amazed when I moved here at how many “transplants” there are here. It’s a melting pot and as a native of L.A. I really appreciate that. I also really love that southern hospitality is a real thing. The people here are so friendly. Hearing things like “I appreciate you” every day make me a happy camper!
What do I like least? Hmmmm… Does anyone every *not* say “the traffic”? 🙂 I also really miss the beach, but that’s about it.
