Today we’d like to introduce you to Jermel Howard.
Jermel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got started doing open auditions. Someone suggested I gave it a shot and said I had a great look. I went for an open call for a burger king commercial and booked it. Then, the next four things I auditioned for, I booked. The fire was lit.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Success never has a smooth road. In fact picture success as being inside an active volcano. That ride would never be smooth. With that being said, I was in shelters as a kid. Then, I and my siblings were split into foster care. I had several struggles trying to find myself, truth and my light along the way. Gaining a higher level of understanding, and compassion has played a huge role in my journey.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a known actor, writer, and producer. Known for playing roles like Brains on the hit Starz series “Power”, LorenZO in the hit movie “The First Purge”, Shameek in Marvel’s lukecage, Ty in the BET show “Tales” and many others.
My company “Steel island Productions” is now in production filming a few projects we’ve created.
I’m also known for my book relationship guide book on Amazon and kindle titled “How men act in a relationship and why?”
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
That’s a great question. I remember one time, I was so caught up in trying to get to the next level. I kind of didn’t really celebrate what I’ve done. My older brother said “Jermel, you need to celebrate your success, you’ve accomplished so much” and at that moment, I realized that even though sometimes you may not be exactly where you want to be, to someone else you’re already successful.
So, if you have dreamed, planned or thought of a direction for your life and career, and you execute and make steps towards it, and or completely reach your goal or have come close enough to learn from failure you are. successful.
