Meet Victoria Aiken of Simply V Fashion Designs in Tyrone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Aiken.

Victoria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My fashion line is called SimplyV. SimplyV is Simply Me and SimplyV is also for girls like me. I am 20 years old and I have been interested in fashion designing since I was seven years old and I began practicing fashion designing since October of 2007. I chose to start designing when I went to my first fashion show meeting for my aunt’s company. The drawings, designs, and the outfits were all beautiful. I instantly became inspired to pursue fashion as my career. In 2009, there was a school contest to see who could draw the best design for the next school spirit t-shirt and my design won. I was so happy with my accomplishment and so was my family. In 2010, there was another contest to see who could design the best t-shirt for 4-H Camp. After years of practice, I was able to enter fashion shows with my designs in 2012, 2014, and 2016. With help from my mom, I drew the design and won. After those two events, my mind was set. If it weren’t for my family and their dedication to my life and dreams I wouldn’t be where I am now. I am currently a student at Savannah College of Art and Design with a major in fashion design and a minor in fashion marketing and management.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has been a challenging journey but I learned throughout my whole experience. Some of the struggles is finding inspiration for designing large amounts of clothing in a short period of time. In my intro to fashion design class, I had to create a 30 piece collection based off of a theme and make sure that everything was cohesive through every step in my process. It took many sleepless nights to get it done, but I made it through.

Simply V Fashion Designs – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company’s name is Simply V. I mainly design dresses, skirts, blouses, and sometimes suits that are modest but still suit anyone’s body shape. I am most proud of my simple but cohesive color scheme of pink, gray, black, and white. I believe that my inspiration from the ’80s sets me apart from others.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is checking off all the boxes in my list of goals and also confirmation from close friends and family. Some goals that I am working to achieve is to graduate from SCAD with a 3.5 GPA or higher, get a paid internship and work my way up in the fashion design/marketing world, and to own a boutique.
