Today we’d like to introduce you to Profit The Jeweler.
Profit The Jeweler, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally from Griffin/Alvaton GA, I came to Atlanta for college that’s what brought me here to live permanently even though I always used to visit. I knew guys who I went to college with that had very expensive jewelry that they wanted to sell. I figured at some point they had money and now was broke so they needed to sell. I was nineteen at the time being in college you can always use extra money so I took on the job finding customers who would buy what they had and they had lots of it. I mean lots of it that’s how I made my first jewelry sell found out about the different types of diamonds and karats and most of all fantastic with how such items could cost and be worth more than houses and cars it caught my interest and I knew that’s what I wanted to do for a living.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most definitely struggles me having a strong southern accent most customers at first didn’t take me serious I wasn’t making nothing at all and the jewelry store was all I had to support myself ended up losing the apartment I had since I had quite well flunked out of college financial aid didn’t pay for housing anymore ending up sleeping on Marta buses where a couple of drivers would pay me for cleaning their buses at the end of the line slept in a couple hotel lobbies when I could I chose the good ones the ones you can fix yourself breakfast at so I made sure I at least ate my mom had to come from Meriwether late one night to Buckhead to give me a ride caught a security had discovered me sleeping there and kicked me out this was like 5am I can laugh about that story now cause she didn’t I didn’t have nowhere to stay at the time that was the main struggle me with a big dream and just trying to be taken serious I didn’t give up.
Please tell us about designs by Chris.
Use to be called diamond and co. The company is called designs by Chris now been with them since 2012 the same people we sell/design custom pieces we’re the number one choice for jewelry and custom pieces in Atlanta that’s what we’re known for I’m most proud that they look at me as family and put me in a position to make legal money and help others things that set me apart that most jewelers I come across was born into this and family been doing this for many many years me when I was born I wasn’t handed nothing where I’m from I didn’t have many resources the only thing I knew is that I wanted to be something in life I grew to love and be passionate about what I do now, I learned it was never about the money but I’m glad it came with it lol.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
To be honest working in the cornfields and pine straw field with my grandfather it taught me a good work ethic that’s how I’m where I’m at today it’s hard to outwork me.
