Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Scott.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Monique. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
How I got started is during early 2011 when my husband was laid off from his job and there was only one income and an unemployment check. The job market changed significantly a few years before and we were just getting back on our feet. I was always a go-getter and would find ways to make extra money. Prior to starting my company, I would do quick mobile hairstyles such as ponytails, quick weaves, braids, and sew-ins to make sure we had extra cash for food, daycare and, etc. I purchased as many hairstylist supplies from my local beauty supply store, created some business cards and lined up a few solid clients. I knew that I needed to become licensed but I wasn’t sure if I was ready to be all in. Instead, I shifted over into the accessories realm. I’ve always been an avid accessories buyer. I would purchase over $30 in costume jewelry from The Body Shop weekly. I realized how much that added up to and thought, why not become a fashion jewelry and accessories provider. I researched companies and found a vendor that seemed to have the style of accessories of interest and stepped out in faith! I was working with a strict budget then so I started with the minimum amount to place an order, which was only $50.00. I submitted the order, waited a few days (which was the most anticipating part) because I wasn’t sure if the company was a scam, or if the jewelry would be nice. Once it arrived, I was happy and was everything I expected plus more. I figured I’d take it to work the next day to see if my coworkers would give me feedback, I sold out within 15 mins. and made an extra $200.00. I have built a successful business from that day forward. I already loved fashion accessories and have been in sales over several years, it was the best opportunity to showcase beautiful pieces, build fabulous relationships and earn money at the same time.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth ride. I have experienced several different struggles. One of the many struggles I endured was trying to balance being a mother, wife and still maintaining a full-time job while running a business full-time. It is important that you make time for the ones you love and not let business come before them. I also self fund my business and there have been times when I didn’t have the finances to invest in my business consistently. This can be a strain on your business because ultimately it runs off the money that you invest back into your business in order to generate more revenue. It really does take money to make money and if I was not careful with how I invested funds it would throw the business productivity and success completely off. It is important to recognize your areas of weakness during the struggle so that in the future, you don’t struggle as much.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Love FAB Jewels story. Tell us more about the business.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck, but I do believe in blessings. I have been blessed in life to even be here to be apart of this opportunity. If it was not for the goodness of the Lord, I would not have been in business this long. God has been my inspiration and I’m following in his footsteps. I’m not perfect, but the minute I get out of order with him, my business takes a hit. I would prefer to stay in order as much as I can so that I can strive in excellence, but also bless others along the way. I’m learning this in life daily.
