Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Hawkins Jr. and Shanna Hawkins.
Gary and Shanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
So, it all began one day while I was on a trip with my dad (to Baton Rouge, Louisiana) to help remodel the home that my grandmother currently lives in. And while on this trip, I can remember sitting in my dad’s car by myself as he was in my grandmother’s home getting ready to get back in the car so that we could go to Home Depot to pick up some supplies that the remodelization of my grandmother’s home would need. I was in the car waiting on my dad for maybe about 30 minutes or so and suddenly, I began to hear what I believe to be God’s voice speaking to me about becoming a social media evangelist. And just to be clear, I’m not claiming that I heard the audible voice of the Father, but I do believe that I heard Him in a very subtle way speaking to my heart. He begins to give me the vision for what it was that He wanted me to do and in that same moment, He gave me the name, “The Timeline Preacher” to kind of market it if you will. This name has been the name that I have stuck with for over about two years now and being obedient to God concerning what I heard on this particular day has proven to be very fruitful even beyond what I could’ve ever imagined. And so apart from me being a full time Youth Pastor at Voices of Faith Ministries, I now get speaking engagements, invited to different panels to speak on in a motivational type of way, the opportunity to do interviews (much like this one here), and also even the amazing opportunity to co-write a 30 day devotional entitled, “A 30 Day journey With The Timeline Preachers,” with my beautiful wife which should be published by no later than the end of the year. So yes, God has been extremely good to me in the last couple of years and I am absolutely thrilled to see what the future holds for both me and my wife as: The Timeline Preachers!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t necessarily say that our journey has been difficult, but I will say that any time you give yourself to full-time ministry, both on the clock and off the clock, that there will be warfare along the way. And by that, I simply mean that we as Christians believe that anytime there is good work in the name of Jesus being done, there will always be opposition from our adversary (Satan) to make sure that the journey isn’t easy. For example, our adversary does a pretty good job of convincing us in vulnerable moments that we aren’t qualified to partner with God in doing His work. And it can be mentally draining believing the lies that you aren’t qualified or even good enough to speak on behalf of the Father or even to be the hands and feet of Jesus. But it’s always refreshing being able to get back to the secret place of fellowship with the Godhead as they (Father, Son, and Spirit) remind you of both who you are and whose you are. But really other than mental warfare, the journey of becoming The Timeline Preachers alongside my wife has been one of the most rewarding things of my life!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Timeline Preachers – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
So honestly, we really aren’t a company. Some might call us a brand but we really are just two individuals who want to be willing vessels used by God. And so as I’ve previously mentioned, my wife and I are in the process of finishing up our book, but we are also on YouTube as, “The Timeline Preachers.” We do however plan to venture out into the deep and maybe consider starting a clothing line in the near future, but I wouldn’t necessarily say that the essence of who we are is a company. We’re just two ordinary people who want the name of Jesus to be on full display every time people encounter us!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our big plans for the future look like being the Senior Pastors of our local church. So right now, we want to build rapport with people, nurture healthy relationships, and build a Christlike reputation in our community so that when that time comes, people would trust us to be their shepherds.
