Meet Catherine Talkington of Ca’Shae Interior Design in Roswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Talkington.

Catherine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been in the Atlanta Georgia area for over 25 years after moving from Buffalo New York. In Buffalo, I had my own company and was hired for one of the largest waterfront projects in the area as Director of Design. After moving here, I started my career working for a high-end retailer in the area. In my career, I have been able to learn all aspects of the business. I have worked retail, trade wholesale, art, architecture, and interior design. Working in other parts of the country has also brought a richness to the design elements we apply.

Our motto is “loving your space”, and we try to bring original design and impeccable service to the discriminating client. We focus on applying timeless design principles from classical, transitional, tradition to contemporary floor plans. Every home is designed with our client’s lifestyle, and budget in mind.

After 39 years of experience, and knowing all aspects of the business, we are able to bring a very comfortable experience to our cliental. We have many repeat clients that we have worked with for years.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing is ever smooth. In my career, there have been three moves to different cities within the US. Picking yourself up and starting all over again is not easy. Finding new resources and the right fit for your career can be challenging.

The hardest one was moving from Buffalo to Atlanta. After a divorce and the kids were in college, I felt I had to find a more economically stable climate to work in. Atlanta and Chicago were my options. I decided Atlanta. I did not know a soul and had to start my life and career all over again.

Atlanta has been good to me despite the challenges of economy from year to year. I feel every step backwards was two steps forward. Perseverance and loving what you do is the key.

Happy to say. I have remarried, my children are nearby and Ca’Shae Interiors is doing well.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I pride my business on listening to my client’s needs, space requirements, and overall lifestyle and the use of space. Listening and exchanging ideas is crucial to each project. I work closely with architects, vendors, contractors and the homeowner on every project from the beginning to end.

I have worked over the years with many builders helping new homeowners with their selections. Specifying details for a new home can be overwhelming with all the products available today. Having a professional can save homeowners costly mistakes and make the project run much smoother and more timely.

We specialize interiors from top to bottom. Specifying, tile, colors, plumbing, flooring, paint, draperies, furniture, floor plans. Remodeling any room of the house that may be outdated. We are capable of it all.

I love my repeat cliental, and that not only we have created spaces that they love, they become friends also.

What were you like growing up?
I was an only child and very shy. Surrounded by my big Italian family. My mother was a very creative person and kept a beautiful home. I think she inspired some of my love for design.

Being the only child gave me time to draw and create things in my head and continued through my later years.

High School was a private Catholic School in Detroit, Michigan. I finally started to get a real sense of myself and began to be a bit more outgoing. I wasn’t sure I wanted to be in this all female school at first, but it brought such strength and focus to my life, it was the best experience I could have had to prepare me for my career.

Family, art, and design have always been my biggest interest. I love sports, and working out, and challenging my body to try new activities. My latest are Spinning and Yoga, cannot get enough.
