Meet Nadia Jackson of Material Motives in Peachtree City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Jackson.

Nadia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It’s not that I didn’t know myself, it was that I was scared to be myself. I knew I loved fashion, I knew I wanted a business but fear would over power me every time. I had to get out of my own head. It was not until my senior year of college as a Biology major that I realized I wanted more out of my life. As my college career started to come to an end, I began to reflect on the choices I made with my life thus far. Choices that have caused me to miss out on numerous opportunities because of fear and self-doubt. I refused to walk into another chapter of my life with that same mentality.

I remember keeping my dream to myself because I was fearful of what people would say. It wasn’t until I heard a voice that said GO. I know it wasn’t anyone but God. He knew my silent prayers and although I wanted to rush them, he had to groom me and is still grooming me to handle this task. I am quiet and reserved but fashion is my way of speaking and on October 8th, 2018 Material Motives was born. Although I am a newbie in this industry, I am where I am today because of hard work, prayer, and persistence.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What’s a smooth road? I have never been on one of those. All jokes aside, I would not want a smooth road because you don’t learn from perfection, you learn from failures. Those things that were meant to break me ended up making me. Although it has not been a smooth road for me, I am extremely grateful for all the lessons I have learned along the way. I can say I am much more confident and stronger from my struggles. In all honesty, the closer I get to my purpose the bumpier the road gets and that just reassures me that I am on the right track. Entrepreneurship is no cake walk but it is one of the best decisions that I have made in my life. I have cried, yelled, had overdrawn accounts and felt defeated too many times to count but I am so glad I never gave up on myself. I remember when I first launched my site, I did not receive sales for months. I was so embarrassed. I felt like I wasted my time and money but in that dry period of my business, I learned that sometimes you must be planted before your bloom. It’s dark and you feel like you aren’t making any progress but trust me, eventually, you will blossom when it is your time!

To be frank, I know that struggles will constantly arise, but you’ve got to fight for what is yours and Material Motives is not going anywhere. I have learned you have to speak life over your dreams and protect them at all costs.

Please tell us about Material Motives.
I own Material Motives LLC. which is an online clothing store for fashionistas on a budget! I believe you don’t have to break the bank to look amazing. Material Motives specializes in trendy and classy pieces for young women. I am most proud of the growth of my business in such a short time. It is almost time to celebrate my first year in business and I am so blessed! I am also proud of the relationships I have created with people and the trust I have gained with my customers. Material Motives is known for being an online store with quality pieces at an affordable price. I know you work hard for your coins, so I strive to keep prices under $50.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is going back to school shopping in my hometown. I was born in Albany, GA which is a small city in the deep south. Every summer, I would go to visit my grandparents before the school year started. During those stays, I would go back to school shopping. My grandma would give me $100 for school clothes and then, we would go to the mall and have a “shopping spree”. I love to say that is where I learned how to shop on a tight budget and to prioritize what I needed. I would challenge myself to see how much I could buy with $100. I learned how to shop on sale racks, optimize outfits and find my voice in fashion. Once I had all my pieces, I would go back to my grandparents’ house and model my looks. Even to this day, I find joy in finding deals and mix-matching outfits. Little did I know, I would own a clothing store years later.

Very inspiring article for young entrepreneurs to read. I am sure many people have been in that same situation and are now prominent and wealthy business owners. Keep on keeping on Miss Jackson so that I may one day read about you in Forbes.
