Meet A. Marie Davis of My Complete 180 in North Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to A. Marie Davis.

A. Marie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2010, I found myself homeless and completely broken in my spirit. I had just come out of an abusive relationship that lasted three years. My abuser was a cop. Reporting the choking, stalking, punches, verbal and emotional abuse was just out of the question for me.

When I met my abuser, I was the successful owner a Salon and Spa located in Brooklyn, New York. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I never imagined that after working so hard to make my dreams a reality I would lose it all.

Being the “victim” of a Domestic Violence relationship was not the design I had for my life. I was an educated woman whom most wouldn’t think was being abused in her own home. However, it doesn’t matter what your background may be, anyone could be in my position.

Although I felt crushed beyond belief, there was no way I was going to allow myself to stay down. So in 2011 after putting some of the pieces of my life back together, I decided to go back to school to obtain my Master’s degree in Social Work. I knew that my experience was not in vain and that I could use it to show others that the abuse could end and a new life could begin.

I decided to write about EVERYTHING I experienced during that relationship. As I was rebuilding my life, there were strategies and systems I began to develop. While documenting my experience I knew I needed to simplify the strategies to make them teachable. I came up with a three step strategy that was broken down into Admit, Assess, Address. Admit that there is a mindset shift that needed to occur to promote change. Assess how that change is going to take place. Planning is necessary in order for the shift to be successful. Finally, Address the shift and do the work involved in order to own sustainable change.

I began to use this system while working as a Clinical Social Worker in different organizations as well as in my own practice and I realized it “WORKED!”

I started to fine tune what I was writing. My business and the name of my new book My Complete 180 was born. After journaling for years I had always envisioned myself as an author. My book is now in the hands of so many who want to achieve sustainable transformation in their lives. I transitioned from therapy to coaching and became The Mindset Coach.

In 2015, after being diagnosed with a brain disorder called Trigeminal Neuralgia I had my first brain surgery. I decided to relocate to Georgia. It was what my family and I needed. Moving out of New York was a necessity for my health. In 2017 I had my second brain surgery here in Georgia. It was very difficult to recover from that. I still experience residual effects from the surgery as well as the disorder. Although this diagnosis and the surgeries have altered my life dramatically. I couldn’t allow that to stop me. So I kept pressing forward.

I’ve taken my experience, education and writings to now coach others using the Admit, Assess, Address system I created. I speak to other victims of Domestic Violence who are seeking the freedom I’ve obtained. My coaching services are also available to others who seek a new way of thinking to achieve a transformed life. Once the mindset shift begins, all things are possible.

I love living in North Georgia and I love doing what I was created to do. I empower and inspire the lives of others in a way that gives them ownership of their shift. I provide the tools. They are the ones who do the building and we work corporately to ensure that it all stays put together.

My next book, Diary of a TN Warrior is in the works. The TN stands for Trigeminal Neuralgia.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road to making My Complete 180 successful. There are many times I wanted to just throw in the towel and walk away. What I’ve come to realize is that I could never give up on me. When you know what you have been created to do on this earth, the responsibility to live in your purpose far outweighs the desire to give up.

I know for sure that having two brain surgeries and living with Trigeminal Neuralgia have been my greatest challenges. At times I just cry because of the pain it causes., Everyday is met with its own set of challenges. This disorder affects the fifth cranial nerve of either side of the face. Mine affects my left side. It causes excruciating pain. The nerve becomes compressed on by multiple arteries sending electrical shock wave like pain to the forehead, eye, cheek and jaw, OUCH!!

In spite of this, I still push past the pain in order to coach others to live a transformed life. The mindset is what creates the lifestyle.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about My Complete 180 – what should we know?
My Complete 180 is like my third baby. All of the things I’ve experienced personally and my professional career path as a Social Worker led me to creating my business. I am now considered The Mindset Coach because of how I uniquely work with clients teaching them to transform their life. I specialize in helping people to be set free from their past traumas to live in the now where they feel safe, empowered and inspired.

I am so proud of my new book. I worked my butt off to bring it to fruition. It was challenging writing a book while healing from brain surgery. The fact that I was able to write my book through all of the painful days is a major accomplishment for me. My book is now a way to reach a broader audience.

I think having a background as a therapist gives me deeper insight as a coach. It affords me the opportunity to see things from a perspective many other coaches wouldn’t. I am able to coach from an analytical perspective and include that in my services. It helps me provide the highest quality service and gets my clients to achieve results they never could before. I coach my clients to live an intentional life. I am transparent about my struggles to show others there are no excuses for giving up and that anyone can make a Complete 180. I love what I do!

My book is out and it’s called My Complete 180. 3 Simple Strategies to Shift Your Mindset and Transform Your Life. It’s available on Amazon and through my website.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe being the type of person who has a relentless pursuit for success is what has led me here today. I may have been slowed down, but I’ve never given up. My attitude has always been that although life’s circumstances lead us to the road less traveled it will ultimately bring you to your destiny. The greatest quality that has contributed to my success has been my determination. I never allow anything to stop me.
