Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Clark.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eddie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It started for me my senior year in high school. I was playing varsity basketball and before the games we would freestyle to lighten the mood. A group of us decided to take our lyrics to a record thru a mutual friend of ours who happened to have his own studio. I created so much music!
However, I started to feel like I wasn’t myself. I knew who I was portraying in my music wasn’t truly who I am. I later decided to step away from music while I figure out my purpose. It was during this time God came into my life and I made Jesus my Lord and Savior. In walking in my new life, I definitely questioned whether I should rap again, but I knew if it were to happen it would have to be for His glory. After discovering who I am in Christ and what my purpose is, the lyrics came back and here we are today!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t always smooth. You have people who distract you, people who envy God’s favor on your life, and people who are detrimental to your walk and can’t comprehend the change that has taken place. I’ve had to alter relationships and get rid of strongholds that I knew weren’t of God. It was a challenge but today I’m glad I made those decisions.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I make Christian Hip Hop music. While it’s Gospel, I wouldn’t consider it similar to the genre. I didn’t grow up in the church so my music doesn’t have a “church” sound. It edifies with a new generational sound and I think that’s what people appreciate.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Authenticity. Yeah we as artist can make stuff sound good, but do we really believe what we say? Are we really living it? We hold secular artists accountable to that and we should do the same with Christian artists. Don’t just talk about it, be about it. I believe my transparency about my walk has given me the most success because it’s relatable content.
