Today we’d like to introduce you to Yohance Myles.
Yohance, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, I spent most of my life in the South and would like to give credit to the majority of my success to the upbringing and deeply rooted connection of my Southern heritage. After finishing high school, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Performance Acting at Alabama State University and earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Acting from Louisiana State University. Although my first love of acting comes from the stage world of theatre experiences, I have to acknowledge Denzel Washington for his heartfelt performance in the movie called John Q. This movie planted the seeds of inspiration and dedication within me to strive for telling authentic stories with such empathetic and apathetic impact.
My first film opportunity I was an extra in the movie Stomp the Yard. It was one of the most fulfilling moments of my life as I first learned how to embrace the essence and atmosphere of filmmaking. A few years later, I would eventually book my first lead role in an independent film and from there I began to fully experience the never-ending journey of becoming a successful film/tv actor.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road in which I have traveled is one that I give full respect and reverence to my ancestors and the legends who have traveled long before my existence. I am a man of many responsibilities and creative attributes in life, so my journey is relatable and yet uniquely different. I feel that I have portrayed many characters in building a successful resume of work, but my everyday role of fatherhood and marriage is one that I have yet to master. I am so blessed in being able to share my gift/talent in this challenging and rewarding process of becoming a more relevant and consistent artist with my beautiful family. In not sharing such a(n) exhaustive list of current or past struggles, I would rather say that when a person who has a family decides to build upon any dream particularly in the South his/her struggle(s) is always an immediate evaluation of thought and wise perspective.
In my personal opinion an individual struggle(s) sometimes may appear as friendly reminders that the only way towards greatness is through the valley of growing pains in order to reach the mountain of elevated success. While at the same time the struggle(s) or growing pains can be likened unto outworn pavement that becomes a(n) empty pothole. Either one may decide to avoid them or creatively filled them up with life and joy for others who might follow behind our footsteps in efforts that they (future artist) may NOT endure what we the leaders of NOW may be strongly equipped to handle.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am currently on OWN’s Network drama tv series “Ambitions” as the character City Councilman Kent Hamilton. I am so honored and blessed to work with an All-Star cast, crew, directors, writers, and production team. Much love to the OWN network for seizing the moment for “Ambitons” to serve as a number one hit new scripted drama series. And definitely a warm thank you to Will “Power” Packer, Will Packer Production Media, and Lionsgate for their endlessly leadership and skilled expertise in giving our fans and audience something they can enjoy. The City of Atlanta should be extremely proud of what is happening in entertainment with leading pioneers like ”George Pierre” serving as the casting director and Mr. Jamey Giddens our lead writer and creator for ”Ambitons”.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would like to say that “luck” filled with “chances” that I call “blessings” are a huge factor in my faith and spiritual growth as an actor. These blessings whether seen or unseen are the instrumental cords that keep me tied to my journey. And please let me not forget to acknowledge the character of “favor” that shows up in my life when I wasn’t expecting it to. Somehow those unforeseen moments of luck/blessings passed on to me extends from being faithful to God when I doubted his love and presence in my life, building strong accountable relationships, establishing solid work ethics, extending selfless consideration of others needs before my own, honestly admitting to myself that I didn’t have everything so well put together in my life at times, and apparently just the mere fact that if I would commit to allowing the Creator to do what He does best then come rain or sunshine it ALL works itself out eventually. The vibrations are real and can be felt if embraced wholeheartedly.
