Today we’d like to introduce you to Tremica Carter.
Tremica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am the founder and Executive Director of A Kid’s Dream Inc.
Starting A Kid’s Dream was a calling for sure. I got very ill in 2012 and loss some of my ability to walk, see and coordinate due to being dx with MS. There came a moment where I realized that I had not made the impacts in the world or the lives of others that I desired. I had to come to grips with what would I do if I was bound to chair and could no longer walk. So I said yes to God and decided to help someone else despite my challenges. I started with the hopes of helping disadvantaged girls with self-esteem and higher education assistance. We started the idea and process at my kitchen table. We held the first Princess Project empowerment session in my home with a full fine dining experience complete with linen, glasses and roses. The girls were served and treated to a session of character building mentoring. It was a huge success so I continued to build, connect and collaborate with my community to service more girls.
In the past five years, we have grown from our kitchen table to over 2600 square feet of space in a community center serving young girls and boys in need. We are on task by 2020 to have assisted 100 socioeconomically disadvantaged youth onto higher education. Our students are referred by school counselors and our advocates are in the high schools meeting with students on a biweekly basis walking them through the higher education process. This year we are excited to announce that we will be adding tutoring and enrichment classes to life skill mentoring curriculum. The tutoring classes will range from ACT/SAT prep to Math, English and Science. Our enrichment classes will cover everything from entrepreneurship classes, dance, piano, guitar and wellness/mediation classes to name a few.
We believe that every kid deserves to know they can have a dream and their dream can become a reality.
Our vision is to develop confident well rounded young adults that are knowledgeable and empowered to positively impact the world.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road and challenges have been present. As a nonprofit, funding can sometimes be a challenge.
The benefits of helping a youth in need find their path absolutely outweigh the challenges.
