Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Norris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kristen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first decided to go into the medical field when I was nineteen years old. I was pregnant with my first son when I went into labor prematurely. I went to the hospital where I sat for an hour and a half bleeding on myself. The doctors and the nurses were rude. They cared more about what they were going to eat for lunch then they did my care. Before I pushed the doctor told me my son would die. My son Marcus lived two hours before suffocating to death. At nineteen watching as your baby gasped for air as they slowly die really triggers something in you. That night they put me next to a woman who had twins. I listened to her babies cry as I wished for mine to still be here. Where was my sympathy, my empathy? Why did no one care to save my baby, my only son? I promised Marcus that his death would mean something that I would touch and help as many people possible. I never looked back since. For the past few years I have worked on the ambulance as well as in the ER in the hospitals, helping and teaching as many people as I could possibly reach. Last year I decided I wanted to teach CPR, I wanted to utilize the skills I learned to help others save a life. Time is very critical when it comes to Cardiac Arrest, if people can recognize the sign and initiate the emergency protocol as well as leap into action with quality compression the person has a higher chance of survival.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been kind of hard road due to people not fully knowing about the new business as well as not being able to advertise as I would like.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hearts4you story. Tell us more about the business.
What sets us apart from the other businesses is that we are a Mother, Daughter duo. After receiving my BLS provider license I was able to send my mother to go and get hers. We are both well versed in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, we take our classes seriously and we provide Lots and Lots of hands on training. Our students are not only knowledgeable when they leave but they are fully capable and ready to perform CPR when needed. My business offers BLS Provider courses for people in the medical field i.e. doctors, nurses, Emt’s/Firefighters. We also offer a heart saver CPR, AED and First-aid class for layman. I.e. Teachers, life guards, foster parent’s daycare workers. We also have Heart saver CPR First-aid as well as just First-Aid.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My hope would be to be able to have enough income coming in so that I may do this full-time as well as growing my business so that it can be in a central location in my own building. I would also like to grow big enough to expand out of state. CPR will always be needed as long as there are people alive in this world.
