Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Gonzales.
Scott, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey technically began in 2006 when I was 14, when I joined my first heavy metal band. For the next two years, I played in various local bands in California where I was living at the time and developed my initial skills there. I took a break for quite a long time due to the military but, once I got out in 2015, I began attempting to write and rap under the name “Sinizter.” It cracks me up when I think back to where my head was at back then to looking at where I am now; I went from not knowing anything about music, writing or rapping outside of what I heard, to basically just being able to hone all of those skills in and develop myself as an artist. I say ‘artist’ because I’ve always incorporated more than just rapping into my music under the same banner and name as all of my Hip Hop/Trap music.
As of recently, I’ve begun to work with certain producers to do some more experimental types of production that quite literally combine authentic elements of heavy metal and it’s various sub-genres with Trap undertones. The combination is pretty heavy and definitely suited for what I have done in the past as a metal vocalist; but I’m also rapping on some of those beats too which changes the dynamic of the beats as well so, overall it’s just interesting, fresh, different, 100% unorthodox but nonetheless, I pursue it unapologetically. In late 2018 there was a comparison video (or rather as it is titled, a “Versus” video) that had surfaced on YouTube that was comparing my music to some other heavy hitting artists that were coming up pretty strongly at the time, long story short, as much hate as I got from that video, I got just as many fans from it and that was what really kickstarted my career and has since allowed me to do everything that I currently do; I am more than blessed to have all of the fans and supporters alike in my corner bumping all of my new tracks.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely not been smooth as much as I wish I could say that it has been; especially in the early stages. Lack of finances was a really big concern when I first started but I still kept on going and just tried to be frugal and keep a low budget until I had gotten a couple of songs to gain some traction which in turn, allowed me to make a little bit of a return off of my investment so far. Maintaining a good standing with my family has been difficult while pursuing this as well however, thankfully, as of recently they have started seeing all of my hard work really pay off and have accepted this as the start of a career rather than just a hobby.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
“Scott Gonzales, professionally known as “Sinizter,” was born in Antioch, California. Having been previously known for his role as a metal vocalist in the music scene in the California East Bay in the early 2000’s, he has since become a solo artist and continues to use his aggressive vocal style to drive his now Trap/Metal inspired music under Sinizter. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia where Sinizter was founded. His lyrical topics often stem from his personal life, war, horror, misanthropy, and personal philosophy.” – (taken from Spotify Bio)
What most notably set’s Sinizter apart from the rest of the artists in his music category is his uncanny ability to traverse as many different styles as he does in such a way that blends all of his influences together under one banner. Sinizter credits a lot of the producers he works with such as Brian Spencer (credits: Lil GNAR, ZillaKami) and Flexatelli (credits: Fat Nick, Pouya, Shakewell) that understand his vision for not just a heavier style but one that combines modern Trap with Heavy Metal elements and are able to deliver the best of both worlds.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As of right now, I am currently working on my sixth independent album “Man. Myth. Legend.” which I haven’t set a projected release date for as of yet but, hopefully December or January; we’ll see. Going forward into 2020, I have promised my fans an entirely “Trap Metal” inspired album 100% produced by Brian Spencer that I still plan on wrapping up and releasing; some singles have already started to surface over the last month or so. Lastly, the long-awaited album I’ve been working on with Flexatelli I am planning on releasing in 2020. The reason I have put that one on the back burner for so long is because to me, that is my baby. I put my heart and soul into all of the music I create but sometimes there are certain projects that I know I may have to put a little extra into as far as marketing, music videos and hype/build up and so on. As always, I will be doing shows throughout the year around Atlanta so you should definitely follow me on social media to keep up with show dates.
