Meet Trailblazer Cherisse (KELLS) Jamison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherisse (KELLS) Jamison.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I knew I wanted to be in the entertainment world since I was seven years old. I would spend the afternoons at my aunt’s house putting on performances and talent shows pretending I was a singer. When I grew older, I recognized my passion for writing poetry and songwriting. I published my first poem at 15 years old and this only made my hunger for entertainment grow more.

Sponsored by rapper 50 Cent at the time conducting interviews. At this moment, is when I realized I wanted to take my blog to the next level, so I started conducting celebrity interviews. When I first started, I attended a lot of events for free, covered a lot of events for free, and attending two networking events a week. One day, I received a call for an offer to write for Hip Hop Weekly Magazine.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, along the way, I have definitely faced struggles and received my fair share of no’s for several reasons. Mainly, because I’m a woman in a male-dominated industry and I always had to prove myself to what seems like everyone. Coming from the world of blogging I was not taken seriously as a Publicist when I first started out my transition into PR. However, in 2019, it’s very common for PR professionals to do both. Also, I was frequently going between jobs because I knew I never wanted to work a 9-5 job, but I needed a way to maintain my bills as I grew my clientele and reputation as a publicist. As someone who graduated with degrees in something completely different and raised in a strict two-parent home, it was hard for me to follow my dreams without feeling as if I was constantly disappointing my family. My advice for other young women who are just starting their journey is to follow your dreams and do what works for you. Don’t let your family fears become your fears. It’s common to turn away from doing things we love to do out of fear of disappointing others but once you do that you’re left with regret and wondering what if.

We’d love to hear more about The Jamison Agency.
Absolutely, well I’m an entertainment Publicist located in Charlotte, NC and I am the owner of the boutique public relations agency The Jamison Agency. The Jamison Agency, is basically my baby because I have no kids and Jamison is my last name. At The Jamison Agency we specialize in communications, media relations, brand management, influencer marketing, and Event PR. We offer everything from full service packages to A La Carte services. I consider The Jamison Agency very unique from other PR firms and I like to stand out. What makes us different, is the fact that I refuse to take the word NO for an answer. I specialize in growing and I am known for my personality, my hard work, my dedication, and an eagerness to see other people win. I’m a very big advocate of women supporting women and collaboration over competition. I’m dedicated to finding a way to make anything I set my mind to happen. When it comes to my clients, instead of telling them I’m not capable of doing something I just get it done. My biggest thing is honesty, a lot of people respect me because of my honesty and it’s very rare that you receive that in the entertainment industry. People respect my hustle, my honesty, and the fact that I’m not scared to help the next person.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
I believe inspiration and knowledge comes from the opportunity to see the real challenges women faced today. The portrayal of women in media has definitely changed and the percentage of women become entrepreneurs and starting a business is at an all-time high. Opportunities are more available for women today, then they have been in the last 100 years. As an advocate for women specifically black women, I’m always pushing the fact that as women we can amount to anything we want to be and go anywhere we want to go.
