Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Angeline.
Erica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began designing as a teen and started my first business while studying fashion design in Atlanta. I initially designed accessories and decided to switch gears and transitioned into clothing & costume design by the mid-nineties. After working as a custom clothier in the entertainment industry I moved into the bridal realm in 2003. Currently my company designs 2 ready to wed bridal collections, accessories and made to measure wedding gowns.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were many challenges in the very beginning of my bridal career, the biggest being sourcing and production. Prior to moving my production to Asia, I found it most difficult to locate reputable production houses that did not require large minimum orders. Because I offer clients custom design and fit I was rejected by almost everyone and was forced to piece together my own domestic team.
Sourcing premium bridal fabrics and laces directly from the fabric mills was even more difficult because back then many companies were private, didn’t have websites or only allowed you to order if you had a referral from an existing client of theirs.
After 3 years of trying, I finally broke through by networking with more established designers who would endorsed me to their suppliers. Eventually I began traveling directly to the mills and lace houses to do business.
Please tell us about Erica Angeline Bridal.
Erica Angeline Bridal produces wedding gowns and accessories. We have a standard collection of gowns that are available to purchase online, but we are more so known for our made to measure gowns and evening wear.
Our philosophy is to infuse our client’s personality into the gowns we create and pair that with excellent fit, quality fabrics and embellishments. We make the corsets, bras and inner structure of our wedding gowns by hand to ensure a proper fit, posture and lift regardless of your dress size.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The hardships and trials made me stronger as a working artist and entrepreneur. After 25 years, I’ve learned to ignore the fear, erase the word “Can’t” from my vocabulary, push negativity far away, and keep my clients for a lifetime, not just a season.
