Meet Lauren White of White Diamonds Dance Team in Cobb County (Kennesaw)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren White.

Lauren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started in a parking lot lol! I took a walk around my apartment complex and I noticed several children mostly girls who were walking around with nothing really to do, getting into fights and other kinds of trouble. So I asked one of the girls why were they doing things to get themselves into trouble? She responded that they were bored and most of the things they wanted to do were costly. So I walked up to the rest of the group and asked them what do they like to do and instantly they all yelled DANCE!! So from there I took the group of girls and practiced outside in our parking lot! I taught them technique, creativity and most important sportsmanship! After two years of practicing outdoors, we were blessed with a studio at a local community center! I couldn’t be more proud of my team and while some look at me as the girl’s blessing, I look at them as mine.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. We have been through many trials and tribulations. There were so many people within our circle that were against us which caused a lot of friction between the team members. From unreliable coaches, unsupportive parents and disrespectful team members we thought that our team was going to end. However after self reflection and coming to the realization that everyone is not meant to be on our journey we persevered through all of those adversities.

Please tell us about your business.
White Diamonds started as just a dance team however being in business for five years I realized we had to become much more, we had to be a family. I build confident dancers! I’m known for pushing my team members out of their comfort zone. I’m most proud of my leadership girls because they have grown into little mini me who don’t take no for an answer! Any new moves or tricks they are self taught and it amazes me to see them bring confidence out of new team members! I think what sets us apart is that we are genuine, if we say we love you we mean that and we appreciate any and all aspects of dance because to WDDT Dance is Life!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being humble. I learned about being humble a long time ago. I’m a New Orleans native and a Hurricane Katrina victim. When I moved to Georgia it was a different walk of life for me. Where I’m from most of the time we’re always on a defense which can be a bad thing if someone just says the wrong thing or we take what the person says the incorrect way. Those characteristics were embedded in me but I realized it made me unrelatable. So I decided to humble myself so that I can be more relatable and once I started my business it helped with growing and networking!
