Meet Fran and Michael Kendall of VMP Genetics in Roswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fran and Michael Kendall.

Fran and Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a biochemical geneticist, Harvard trained, who was recruited to Atlanta to chair the Genetics Department at Scottish Rite prior to the merger with Egelston. Prior to relocation, I was the assistant director of the inborn errors of metabolism department at Boston Children’s Hospital and the director of the first Mitochondrial Disorders Program in the country. Following relocation to Atlanta and the merger of the two hospital systems, I left CHOA and we started our own biotech company. After 7 years we parted ways with our previous partner and began our internationally known consulting private practice specializing in the diagnosis and management of mitochondrial disease and other rare genetic disorders bringing specialty care to remote areas of the country and world reaching places to include Hong Kong, Brazil, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Morova. In addition, we are involved with clinical treatment trials, research with our partners at UGA and I lecture on mitochondrial disease and other rare disorders at local medical schools, nursing programs and at other venues and conferences around the country.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our motto is perseverance and while starting an out of the box medical model practice has been challenging we never gave up believing in our mission of reaching a worldwide audience. We have used creative and innovative technology based mechanisms to reach our goals along with pure hard work and determination.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about VMP Genetics – what should we know?

We are proud that we have created a practice that has a worldwide reach and of our innovative methods, including blogging on a FB site that reaches 20,000 people, that brings knowledge to a very broad audience.
