Meet Carissa Glanton of Diamond Eyez Photography in Jacksonville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Glanton.

Carissa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started photography professional while I was studying Graphic Design at Florida State College at Jacksonville. My love of portrait work wasn’t officially untapped until I attended film and digital photography classes during my Degree. See, I am a small town girl that moved from North Carolina to Florida back in 2006. Becoming a photographer was the furthest thing from my mind but oddly enough I always kept a little disposable camera around when I was in High School, so I secretly had an interest in capturing portraits.
I have my friend Rachelle to thank for inspiring me to pursue a career as a photographer! She was my first model and was always down to take photos with me, even if it meant waking up 6:00 a.m to drive half an hour out to the beach to snap some shots! I actually began shooting using a pink Sony point-and-shoot camera, can you imagine that!?. I gained a feel for unique concepts and upon graduating, I further developed my skills in design, digital photography, and photo editing.

I molded my passion into a targeted specialty I like to call “Birthday Glamour Portrait Sessions.” My mission is to have my clients feel like the Queen of the day when they visit my studio located in the heart of Jacksonville, Florida. I love building scenes and sets that give my clients a unique style to their shoot.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have faced many obstacles during this journey, most of them being the location of my studio. I’ve had three previous studio locations in Jacksonville, Florida that I eventually grew out of and I am now in an amazing location in Springfield that provides me with the aesthetics I seek in a studio.

Please tell us about your business.
Diamond Eyez Photography specializes in Glamour Birthday Portrait Sessions for Teens and Adults. I am well for the creative themed shoots like Alice in Wonderland, Chanel Inspired Sets, and the new Birthday Barbie.

I wear several hats within my company as I do the booking, brainstorming, creative directing, scenes, coaching, capturing, and retouching. I am different from the stereotypical photographer because I am a female in the game that combines props and decor with the photo shoot.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment for me was just recently. I’ve recently got a burst of inspiration from interactive museums and decided to host an event at my studio with similar features called “Queens Night Out”. The event was such a success and defiantly gave me the motivation to create more.
