Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Payne.
Vivian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I tragically lost my 16-year-old son in a car accident back in 2008. I started to design his cemetery arrangements as a form of grief therapy and through that, I ventured into designing wreaths and floral arrangements. Every item I design has a touch of love in it. I launched an Etsy shop a few years ago and have found a new joy through my pain.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Losing someone you love is never, ever easy. But losing a child has been the most devastating and heartbreaking thing I have ever experienced. I needed an outlet. Using the wreaths and arrangements as a form of creative therapy has been challenging at times, but in the end, it has truly been a great blessing and stress reducer.
We’d love to hear more about KJ Door Decor.
I create one-of-a-kind wreaths and flower arrangements! I like to add unexpected elements! Curly picks sticking out, a wild bow, anything fun! I also create more traditional pieces, but my true signature is something playful! Like my son, I want to bring my customers joy when they display their piece.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
I love to design my items for both men and women. I love to hear stories of a mom gifting her daughter with one of my items, or a grandmother buying a wreath for her grandchild’s new home.
