Meet Emmett Hunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmett Hunter.

Emmett, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
All of my life, I’ve always been a fan of the arts. During my middle school years, I was in the band. While in the band, I played instruments like the bass clarinet and tenor saxophone. When I wasn’t participating in band or playing organized football, I would entertain my family by impersonating different television characters. I eventually told my parents I wanted to sign up for acting classes. My mom took me acting to sign me up, but unfortunately, the classes were too expensive. I decided to shelve my ambitions to become an actor and would spend the rest of my childhood and young adult life playing football. I went on to play football collegiately and eventually finished my career as a college football All-American while earning a degree in Business Administration. Around 2008 I took my daughter to an acting and modeling showcase. One of the talent agents gave me her card and told me I should think about giving modeling/acting a try. I ended up signing with her agency and I’ve been on this actor’s journey ever since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As an actor, I’ve learned that you definitely need a thick skin to survive in this business. Even though I’ve booked some descent recurring and co-star roles throughout the years. I’ve also auditioned hundreds of times and fell short. I’ve learned to embrace the constant rejection that comes with being in the business and to celebrate each and every callback or booking no matter how big or small.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a film and television actor. I am most proud of sharing the screen with Emmy winning actors like Donald Glover on the hit FX series Atlanta. Also sharing the screen with the great veteran actors like John C. Mcginley on the IFC horror comedy Stan Against Evil.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I would define success simply as doing something you’re passionate about. I don’t think success can be monetized at all. If you’re a billionaire, but you feel empty and hopeless inside, I would say you fell short of being successful. On the other hand, if you’re a blue collar worker making a modest salary, but you’re doing what you love. I believe that equates to success.
