Meet Blessing Nwosu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blessing Nwosu.

So, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started in 2016 when I graduated from college. My cousin Ernest wanted to start making YouTube videos again but he wanted to capitalize on Instagram. I was reluctant at first but I agreed. His schedule eventually got too busy but I decided to continue. I remained consistent in the comedy videos and dance videos that I soon started getting booked to MC school events.

I MC’d talent shows, African Nights, Fashion Shows, and even community events like Independence day cookouts and Dance competitions. From there, I started Hosting Weddings, parties, and mini-concerts. I then started building a network that allowed me to begin making and releasing my original afrobeat singles as an artist. I started to use those songs and other mainstream Afrobeats songs to teach afrobeat dance at my dance classes in Charlotte, NC. I like to put a little bit of dancing, laughter, and music into my MC experience so that I give everyone something I know they can remember. It makes it more fun for me and those who enjoy watching me.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a STRUGGLE. I have contemplating quitting many times and my health has even been up and down because of many stresses. Sometimes it’s a financial burden to constantly promote and market yourself. Sometimes I forget to eat between hosting trips or meetings. I stay tunnel-visioned and just disregard my health and that comes back on me.

Other times I struggle on the content I want to release. I tend to release what is requested and not what I actually want to release. It makes me question the authenticity in my content because if I start releasing what I want NOW, would people still enjoy my work?

We’d love to hear more about your work.
In my business, I MC talent shows, weddings, fashion shows, dance competitions, etc; I also make music, and I teach Afrobeats Dance classes once a month. I am most proud of my progress. I have come very far in this unexpected business and that shows me that God has a plan for me. What sets me apart from others is how I use my Nigerian heritage to shape the majority of my content in dancing, music, and fashion.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In 5-10 years, I see myself settled and making money by throwing my own events with big names and celebrities coming through. Booking other folks or people pulling up just out of the good relationships I have built over the years of hosting.
