Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Leach.
Charity, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I came up with the idea for OUT in the cities about five years ago. I wanted to create a platform that showcased LGBTQ+ businesses, professionals, and organizations. I felt that our community lacked in that perspective. Since then, I have rolled out the first phase of our website. Although still a fairly new platform, the love, and support for the concept have been wonderful. It has had its pitfalls, but I am truly grateful for the journey, and I am excited to see where it goes from here.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. I’ve had the hardest time trying to create this platform. I’ve gone through several web designers and still ended up having to create the website on my own. It’s been a rocky road, but I’ve learned so much along the way.
Please tell us about your business.
OUT in the Cities is a web platform for all things LGBTQ+. Our mission is to provide a safe space for people in our community to showcase their business, themselves as professional, organizations as well as events. We also want to make it easier for consumers to find LGBTQ+ businesses and establishments that they would feel comfortable patronizing.
-As for myself, I specialize in graphic design, art direction, and creative brand consulting by trade. This has helped me so much in trying to build and grow OUT in the Cities.
-I am proud that we have come so far and steadily growing. We co-hosted our first annual QueerCon Atl: LGBTQ+ Business & Arts Expo in October 2019. In hopes of expanding our mission to an event. This event was a wonderful meeting of great minds, and we hope that this year’s expo will be even better.
– The thing that sets us apart is that our platform one of very few, and we constantly come up with creative ways to expand upon our brand.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance and Determination. Without those two things, I would have definitely given up a long time ago. Perseverance gives you the will to keep moving, and determination keeps getting back up every time you get knocked down.
