Meet Darryl Lewis of Optikool Illusions Photography and Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Lewis.

Darryl, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey was different from most photographers and media company owners. Professionally, I was trained as a pharmacist and received a Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina. During that time in school, I was able to develop the discipline, leadership and networking skills necessary to turn my passions into reality.

My first exposure to weddings happened when I was 15. I had the opportunity to assist in wedding videography, but never knew I would pursue it as a business owner ten years later. As a graduate student, I was able to buy my first camera and reconnect with my long time passion of content creation.

In 2017, I founded Optikool illusions Photography and Media, LLC and the journey has been unbelievable since. Our company specializes in weddings, event, and portrait photography and videography services. My goal was to build a team that could provide consistent quality for customers at an affordable price. Since our founding, Optikool illusions has grown to be far more than just a photographer. We are a team of photographers, videographers, and creative directors dedicated to capturing your best moments in the perfect way!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Working professionally as a photographer has brought both highlights and challenges. As I began to have doors opened for me, I learned that there was so much more to success than just being good at what you do. Learning about incorporation, payroll, liability insurance, and even social media management are all examples of challenges that I faced when starting my company. While these components of business ownership may seem frustrating, they are truly necessary to expand one’s business to its fullest potential.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Optikool Illusions Photography and Media – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Optikool illusions currently provides photography and videography services for all events including, but not limited to graduations, modeling, weddings, conferences, commercials, music videos, live recordings, parties, funerals, and more. We do however specialize in wedding photography and videography and are most known for these services.

Our company truly works to provide a seamless experience for our customers. Particularly on wedding days, having a company which is unified in photography and videography efforts is invaluable. We enjoy being both experienced at our craft and also making each experience enjoyable for our clients. We are most proud that we can provide a consistent quality to our clients at an affordable price, whether we are working with a friend, large corporation, or a wedding.

Our consistency has blessed us to work with a number of great talents outside of weddings and events including individuals such as WNBA Superstar Brittney Griner and notable music artists such as Greg Cox, Samoht, and Yung Joc.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As our company continues to grow, we are looking forward to getting more involved with the music industry. We have had opportunities to work with a number of recording artists including Greg Cox, Samoht, and Yung Joc. With our current experience, we know it is only the beginning. We feel that the quality of our services can bring a lot of value to the music industry and look forward to expanding those opportunities.
