Meet Rondelle Martin of Daily Delle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rondelle Martin.

Rondelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Daily Delle started from an idea of me using Instagram as a digital photo album to store pictures of my life as a single mother so I could show my son when he got older. I thought it would be fun to take nice pictures capturing all the memories we make, and if I happen to meet other single mothers along the way then so be it. At this time, my family and I had moved to Central Virginia from the Washington, DC area where I was born and raised. Being in a new area as a single mother was lonely, and my family was trying to get on our feet after several years of unfortunate circumstances happening back to back. On top of that my son’s father has never been in the picture, and being in a new area away from familiar faces just heightened the feeling of loneliness and anxiety for me.

As I started sharing my life through pictures on Instagram, I noticed that there really were not many (if any) single mothers who were sharing their journey in a transparent way. I also began attracting a larger audience of not only single mothers but mothers in general. From that point, I realized that I could literally turn what I was doing into a business, and that led me to becoming a content creator. I started to research different ways that I could make a living from being a content creator, and I began working with brands, as well as with other creators.

While I was doing that I also started using Instagram as my personal journal, especially when my family and I were relocating from Central Virginia to the Atlanta area in October 2019, In short, we ended up homeless for almost two months due to a series of events out of our control, and during that time I used my Instagram and Youtube as a way for me to vent and share about how the situation escalated. I was also diving deeper into my faith with Christ during this time as a coping mechanism, and I would share daily inspiration and scriptures with my Daily Delle tribe.

Eventually, on the day before Thanksgiving (which was also my birthday), my family was approved for a home. At this point, I started incorporating motherhood and beauty content into the Daily Delle brand by popular demand. I also started diversifying Daily Delle by offering content creation business tips, and promotion services for businesses. I’m in the works of creating a variety of services to help other content creators who may struggle with growing their brand and building an authentic community. Through it all, I’ve realized I enjoy pouring into others and how powerful it can be to have a solid community of people supporting your brand. Now Daily Delle has grown to over 2,100 followers on Instagram (I call them Delle Dolls) and over 160 Youtube subscribers–receiving over 3,800 Youtube channel views to date, and upwards of 16,000 monthly IG visitors. I’ve also been featured on various brand pages such as Spascriptions, and I’ve been featured on the 102.5FM on The Nightly Spirit with Darlene McCoy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not! I am learning as I go, and one of the things that makes content creation or being an influencer so difficult is that it is still a very new industry–especially in the way we see it being utilized today. So a lot of success is from trial and error. There really is no one-way to reach success as an influencer, and you have to be willing to take some risks. However, I’m limited in how many risks I take given that I am bouncing back from a bout of homelessness.

Another struggle is that people tend to judge you based solely on how many likes and comments you get on your content before they decide if they want to collaborate with you or not. It can be disheartening to experience that as someone who is just starting out, and you’re very passionate about what you do. However, you have to keep fighting against that, and even try to create your own space at the table.

On top of that, it can be difficult to find your voice as an influencer. It’s easy to see all the influencers online today and think it’s oversaturated and you can’t succeed. However, nobody is me, nobody has my exact story, and nobody will tell it like I tell it. I have something that the world needs to hear and see and only I can provide that.

Lastly, another struggle would be genuine relationships. Like any entrepreneur, you have to watch the company you keep and who you choose to do business with. In some cases, it can literally make or break you.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Daily Delle – what should we know?
Daily Delle is an affordable beauty/skincare, lifestyle, and motherhood content brand. So to put it in other words, you can come to my Instagram page and/or YouTube right now and find content that will showcase lifestyle stories and hacks, affordable beauty and skincare, and content about my motherhood journey. I always make sure I have some motivation weaved into my content as well.

However, as I mentioned, I am currently looking into offering a variety of products and services to assist other nano and micro influencers and entrepreneurs grow their businesses, particularly when it comes to producing video content or ways to earn money as an influencer. One way in which I’ve currently implemented this is by offering promo packages geared towards new entrepreneurs who have very limited capital to run their business. I use my platforms to get fresh eyes on their products and services. I also have started sharing work-at-home and freelance jobs so that people who may need extra income or who are not able to work a typical 9-5 can explore the work-at-home job industry and provide for their families. Think of Daily Delle as a one-stop-shop where you’ll be inspired, receive helpful lifestyle information and tips, and see relatable content.

I’m most proud that I am able to walk out my purpose through Daily Delle by helping others through my transparency. What sets me apart is the fact that I am so transparent about my life on Instagram. I’ve had my supporters tell me that my transparency is refreshing and creates a down-to-earth welcoming community. Also, I am a first-generation Guyanese-American who is a freelancing single mom in a multigenerational home. That was a mouthful, but that’s what makes me unique, and ultimately has been a factor towards Daily Delle’s growth.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have to thank God for placing it on my heart to start Daily Delle, and I have to thank each and every supporter who shares my content, likes anything I post, follows me, comments, and just shows me love day in and day out. I am nothing without the support of my Delle Dolls and I don’t take any of it for granted!
